778892 2009-06-01 21:03:00 I have been running the above since day 1. Have decided this is the O/S for me and intend sticking with it.
I think the lack of drivers has been over-emphasised. When I required a driver the program automaticly goes on line and finds one. It's all very straight forward.
The only problem I have is with my printer. An HP colour laser jet 1600. It selected the Vista 64 bit drivers and they are installed and show the appropriate icons etc.. But when I try to use it "No printer found"

Windows diagnostics tells me there are no drivers installed for this printer.

Does anyone else have a simliar set up? Is there any solution?

778893 2009-06-01 21:20:00 Get the drivers (h20000.www2.hp.com). Looks like Compatibility mode may work (chris123nt.com). Try it after you download the drivers. Uninstall the drivers that Win7 installed Speedy Gonzales (78)
778894 2009-06-01 23:48:00 Still no luck. All I get is "Installation Failed". JJJJJ (528)
778895 2009-06-02 00:51:00 I've been having a similar problem with my Laserjet 1300. A support person from HP tells me that the Win7 64-bit drivers will be on their website any day now, so probably the best plan is to just keep checking there. Tony (4941)
778896 2009-06-02 05:16:00 MS usually has a great array of HP printer drivers builtin, sometimes the issue is with the virtual usb port that they use to connect with, and thats why you have to install the software 1st, to create the correct port.
If the port is there and talking to the printer, you could always try one of the generic HP laser jet drivers for it, already in the O/S

778897 2009-06-02 06:25:00 The only solution that will work is to sell it and buy a printer with an actual Vista 64bit driver available.

I found this out the hard way..........

But the O/S is Win7 64 bit RC1 is it not?

More drivers may or may not become available when the O/S is actually released.

778899 2009-06-02 09:32:00 How good is Windows 7 at the moment? I've considered trying it, since I've heard some good things about it.

Can't cling on to XP forever, I guess.

Compared with Vista?

Heaven

If you want to try it out, consider dual booting, or if your machine is powerful enough and supports virtualisation, run it as a VM

Work this out. I deleted the HP directory and removed all HP files I could find.
I rebooted the comp with printer still conected and switched on.
When the reboot finished I noticed a message, "installind new device" followed by "successful".
I have found my printer is correctly identified and is working! Admittedly most of the features and adjustments aren't available, but I can print a "word" document. Which is all I use the printer for anyway.

So far the only programme I have that 7 will not load is an old 16 bit game.
