620921 2007-12-13 08:17:00 I have heard some rumors where a frustrated x-member of Trademe, who had his account disabled for some ridiculous reason, had developed a new auction site which has the potential to compete against Trademe .

Not sure if this is true but I've heard that he's a asian who has put into his website some systems that does not exist within New Zealand auction sites . Apparently he has put into his website various systems which work in some of the top auction sites in asia .

I wanted to know what the rumor was all about so I have tried to search for the site in many search engines but havn't been able to locate anything new .

Has anybody else heard the same rumor or actually knows the address of the site???

620922 2007-12-13 08:29:00 There have been heaps of "competitors" to Trademe popping up in the last few years, and failing miserably. Taking market share from them will be very very dificult. somebody (208)
620923 2007-12-13 08:45:00 I understand that a lot of "competitor wannabes" have come and gone. But I don't know, my friends are talking something big that just started. May just be false information.

But if there really is something that is better than trademe out there, I would really like to know cause I am also a frustrated customer who's had an account disabled for some stupid reason.

Trademe lacks in customer service!

620924 2007-12-13 08:54:00 Like most of us I bump around the net coming across the odd auction site (such as something like Freeferrit) and Ebay is the most common.

IMHO Trademe has them all beat. For sheer readability, functionality, speed and user-friendliness, it is the best.

Why other sites persist in using small fonts, low-contrast text and images I cannot understand.

620925 2007-12-13 08:58:00 Pity that trademe are charging like a wounded bull.

Hell, I went to pull a sale the other day, I had paid a listing fee, and surely I have the right to not sell something, They wanted to penalise me $3.

Imo the only reason for using Trademe is because everyone else does, Which is a pretty big factor. I get annoyed with the one sided way their system is set up, One sided in that whatever cash they want flows to them, and to riung them just causes more cash to flow to them.

On the positive side, Ive sold thousands of dollars worth of gear that would normally have been stored away in a shed untill it was ruined and ended up down the dump.

620926 2007-12-13 09:00:00 The riduculous or stupid reason you got your TM membership disabled is you broke TMs rules. Good on them for disabling your membership go break rules some where else its a big world out there.
TM position a bit like situation I am in Around 6 people in 7 years have tried to set up a competing business in my area. They have all gone under and one even topped himself when he got liquidated. As soon as a newcomer comes in we drop our prices, up our service until they go under. Longest guy lasted 13 months and his wife left him. One guy looked like he would make a go of it but he got his fingers chopped off on a forklift.
First up best dressed I suppose.
There are always going to be dreamers look at all the local computer shops that close after a few months.
The only way to make heaps of money is to think of something new

I think it is a bit strange that you joined up to this forum to post a rumor, and you claim not to know the website address or anything about it, apart from it being 'something big'. It smells kind of spamy to me. Are you sure that you aren't the one that is wanting to setup a competing website. NZ is such a small market, and their are so many small trading websites that are trying to overtake trademe, but none of them have made any impression. The reason why trademe is so successful, is because they are a fantastic well known brand in NZ and the media love them and they are a real success story.

4.2 Your obligations as a seller

1. Sellers must be located in New Zealand or Australia. Sellers outside of these countries are not permitted to sell on Trade Me.

You are not from NZ or Aussie.

I'm siding with Bruce on this one. ;)
