620077 2007-12-10 21:59:00 Did anyone read the nzherald story about the new casino law?

If you have not read it, read it here:

Here is the main rule:

*Visiting the casino at least five times a week and spending more than $300 on pokie machines per session, or visiting at least twice a week and spending at least $500 a session, will be counted as indicators of potential problem gambling .

How does the casino know how much each individual is spending in the pokies?

It's a shame everyone has to be punished by problem gamblers . If they want help, they should get it themselves . People who don't have a problem shouldn't be affected . After all it is free to get help with problem gambling isn't it?

620078 2007-12-10 22:03:00 To make problem gamblers get help they should run it as a lottery. Show up for help and go into the draw to win a prize .... Biggles (121)

But you'd be surprised at the level of sophistication of casino 'oversight' of their patrons . :stare:

People who don't have a problem, don't go to casinos, or at least don't go on a regular basis .

Me Neither.

I would sooner spend $300 or $500 on my computer.
Maybe I have a Computer Problem as opposed to a Gambling Problem:-)

620083 2007-12-11 00:48:00 One of the problems with problem gamblers is that they often use other people's money .

"Respectable professionals" who have access to their clients accounts like lawyers and accountants have "invested" millions . Unfortunately the investements don't pay off . (What a surprise) . When they appear in court (eventually) judges sometimes remark that the casinos seem to have a slack attitude to their responsibility .

Unless of course they can easily afford to lose $1000-$1500 per week . Not many can .

Casinos are great Speedy, heaps of fun, love the enviroment, however, Sky City is a bit tacy, in respect that there dress code is pretty low.
