619786 2007-12-10 03:32:00 For about the first time since the early 1990s, I actually have to pay for my own computer games.

It's a shock.

I spent about 15 minutes in a shop at the weekend juggling which game to get. In the end I went for the expansion pack to Supreme Commander, but I know I'm going to need to buy myself something else before the end of the year.

I was tossing up between ....

BioShock, Call of Duty 4, and Crysis.

So, of those three, if you only had the cash to buy 1, which would you buy and why?

Oh, I'm running a P4 3.4GHz (alas, no dual core), 2GB RAM and an Nvidia 7900 GT, and Win XP Pro.

619789 2007-12-10 03:57:00 im going to make it hard and vote for BioShock :D

i loved the game from the moment i clicked New game till the last Cut scene and the Credits rolling past

the storyline, graphics, sounds and everything else are just plain brilliant

nothing like running around with a fist full of lightning and zapping things all over the show ( there are other "plasmids" but im not going to spoil it)

in the end - its your money

619790 2007-12-10 04:05:00 Crysis.

Although I haven't played CoD4 yet. I'm guessing it's a run-and-gun though - most of the war-based first person shooters are. I enjoyed CoD2.

But the re-playability of Crysis is excellent - I haven't gone back to Bioshock to replay it even though it is a stunner for looks and concept.

A bit of a divergence, but Oblivion can be picked up retail for $40 at the moment and has a lot of depth and your choice of linear game or just complete sandbox.

I've got Oblivion - it's on my list to go back to at some point. I loved the COD games and Far Cry. And BioShock seems to get the thumbs up everywhere.

Choices, choices ...

619792 2007-12-10 04:15:00 I only voted Cod4 as its the only one Ive played. Dean is correct, its pretty much your shooter through and through but alot of fun. rob_on_guitar (4196)

619795 2007-12-10 04:48:00 Crysis is hard on systems. If you get it, download FRAPS and run it while you run Crysis and you can see the frames-per-second in the top left-hand corner. Then tweak settings to get this to around 65 fps which will still be reasonable for most of the battles.
