779666 2009-06-04 11:42:00 I am trying to download a copy of the above to follow James Sugrue's tutorial in the June issue of PCWNZ, but despite following all the MS suggested problem solving tips find I am unable. Am running XP SP3 with 1GB RAM 2x80Mb HDDs. I keep getting a message saying that I am not connected to the internet. I have a DSL connection which is working. Any suggestions welcome.

779667 2009-06-04 11:50:00 strange, i downloaded it a couple weeks ago with no problems.

779668 2009-06-05 09:11:00 yes, the address I tried to download from was in fact: www.microsoft.com , which was the one mentioned in James first article. I was able to download 'vcssetup' , but when I came to the instal it choked and came up with errors suggesting the internet was not connected. I understand one of the possible explanations was that my firewall (ESET) was preventing the transfer of information, but switching this off made no difference.

He's running XP

Have you tried disabling all protection and doing it from safe mode?

You shouldn't have to - Visual Studio Express doesn't need to make any significant changes to the system. Also, running from safe mode will mean there is no network/internet connection - which will just exacerbate Scot's problem.

Scot: You could try downloading the Offline installer (down the bottom of the page), which won't need to connect to the internet during the installation process.

779675 2009-06-05 10:37:00 Thanks for those suggestions. I will try the offline installer and see how I get on. Scot (14653)
