779342 2009-06-03 05:39:00 Short of getting new hardware, what is the best way to squeeze more fps out of a system? sammo450 (13626)
779343 2009-06-03 05:41:00 Drop the screen resolution or the in-game details.....

or clock both card and cpu!!

779344 2009-06-03 05:45:00 OK then. I don't really want to lose visual quality. CPU overclock is a definite option, but my video card runs hot as it is and it is a bit loud for my liking. COD4 doesn't lag as such, but it could be smoother I think, particularly when looking around quickly. sammo450 (13626)
779345 2009-06-03 06:54:00 Are you using a LCD or CRT monitor, what size? SolMiester (139)
779346 2009-06-03 08:09:00 Turn off Anti-Aliasing / Antistropic filtering?
Generally speaking something like that can only be improved by turning down the detail level, the resolution, or buying a flashier graphics card :)

779348 2009-06-03 23:14:00 So you aren't able to lower the graphics quality or upgrade/overclock...they are generally the only two ways you get more fps. utopian201 (6245)
779349 2009-06-03 23:36:00 Send a nice letter to your GPU asking it to perform better, and threaten to reduce it's salary if it doesn't comply.

Assuming you've done the simple things like install the latest drivers etc , there's really nothing else short of an upgrade or overclock.

779350 2009-06-04 00:52:00 You have a CRT, so therefore you arent locked to a native resolution. Why dont you reduce the resolution from 1280x1024 down to 1024x768. That is a 40% reductions in pixels and should allow you to increase\use AA\AF to smooth the edges on the card.

I have that GPU but run all my games @ 1650*1050 including Fry Car 2 with no AA/AF no problem. Though a do run a big clock on the core @ 800

With older cards, the latest drivers can actually hurt performance (but correct rendering errors). I'm still running a dx 8 card (geforce ti4200) and when running some dx 9 games (half life 2), there are rendering errors, such as water not appearing. If I use the latest drivers, the water appears correctly, but performance drops considerably. This is because any directX feature that is not in hardware is implemented in software.

This wont apply to you if you are trying to play a game the same directx generation as your card though.
