What total bollocks! You can see the difference for yourself when we compare Picture 2, a screenshot taken from 'Halo: Combat evolved', a PC game which was among the best of its class at release to Picture 1, an image from 'Crysis', a PC game which is slated to release soon. Halo uses DirectX®9.0b to support its graphics while Crysis makes use of DirectX®10. DX10 adds a new level of realism to games by making characters more life-like. You can see the incredible detail in the screenshot above. The facial expressions, details of the face, the handle-bar moustache and the glazed looking eyes all add to the realism. So rather than show you two pics from Crysis, one DX10 one DX9, they show you Crysis and the aged Halo, which was NOT in any way shape or form best in class when released. Bah! Double Bah! |

| 619817 | 2007-12-13 21:39:00 | Hah yeah, well done MS. I've seen comparisons of Crysis running DX9 and DX10 and the differences to me were pretty fine. DX10 seemed to have sharper edges - in my opinion it looked slightly different, but not obviously better - I think a lot of DX10 is the ability to add more detail in scenes - like more objects ect. gameplanets.blogspot.com www.gamespot.com Its just Microsoft pushing vista to gamers. |

| 619818 | 2007-12-13 21:45:00 | Agreed - I've no doubt DX10 is great and one day when I've got the cash again, (and I finally get convinced to install Vista, which I'm currently avoiding) I'll update my card to a fancy pant DX10 thing and probably have a blast. But trying to imply to impressionable users without the knowledge to know better that that comparison is representative of the difference you'll see is just downright deceitful. Yes MS, deceitful. |

| 619819 | 2007-12-13 22:02:00 | OrangeBox is pretty awesome. I hadn't even played the original HL2, so it was a really good deal for me. Team Fotress 2 is neat. Highly reccomend it... but most people have probably already played the HL2's? | mejobloggs (264) | ||
| 619820 | 2007-12-13 22:06:00 | Yeah I looked at Orange Box in the shop the other day. Was tempted, but I've got and played the original HL2, and aren't convinced I'll get that much more enjoyment out of EP1 and 2. And while I loved TeamFortress back in the day, I find I don't have a heck of a lot of time nowadays for online play - I need games I can pick up and play for a bit in single player. | Biggles (121) | ||
| 619821 | 2007-12-13 22:23:00 | There was a huge storm in a tea cup recently in regards to the DX10 patch Microsoft were meant to be releasing for FSX. It was meant to bring some very nice graphics nearly photorealistic. Microsoft release lots of prerelease screenshots but when the final patch was relase there was hardly any difference and nowhere near photorealistic quality. But the same **** happen with the transition from DX8 to DX9, and it will probably happen with the transition from DX10 to DX11. We're only really starting to see the best DX9 has to offer now so its going to be a while before we see the best of DX10. |

IMHO its the best game out of the 3 I got recently: HL2 Orange Box Crysis FEAR Perseus Mandate Especially EP2 . Its mostly all outdoors this time, the offroad vehicle features a lot, its excellent . You could just get EP1 and EP2 without the whole Orange Box . . . . . |

| 619823 | 2007-12-13 22:29:00 | I've never been one for graphical extremes anyhow. I like a game to look good, but as always, fantastic graphics won't make me like a average game and average graphics don't make me not like a great game. | Biggles (121) | ||
| 619824 | 2007-12-13 22:51:00 | Portal is where it's at . just whatever you do Bruce, don't pick up Unreal Tournament 3 . That game makes me feel OLD! I'm getting my ass handed to me by 12 year olds online, and I'm no newbie to this game . Still, think Cod4 would be the best, it has a brilliant single player story as well as a fantastic multiplayer option, and there are plenty of local servers and players on 24/7 . |

I thought Orange Box was great just for Portal. That had me scratching my head for about a week - as well as the humour element. With the Half Life series though, I have to say I'm getting a little bit sick of the cheesy American niceness of Alex and co. They could do with a bit of swearing if you ask me... |
