619093 2007-12-08 09:18:00 To some extent mac users seem to "forget" any issues . A funny story from work was a mac user who declared "my mac never freezes or crashes, it just never had" . But upon examination a work colleague discovered it was locked solid (I think it was OS 9 to be fair) .

Apple still put some very crappy hard drives in their machines and are often hit by bad motherboard issues . Their marketing department probably does a good job at building the perception .

In summary the fanboi element is probably very high (and even the guy who had his G5 logic board replaced three times is probably still a fan - well actually I know he is as I spied Leopard running when it had barely been released) .

619094 2007-12-08 09:21:00 You could also be upfront and answer DeanF's question.

No I don't work for Apple, would be nice though as Apple NZ pay their Black shirts quite well.

iPods blend quite well too.

619098 2007-12-08 22:03:00 For some reason I keep imagining an episode of Star Trek. Kirk and crew beam down to a planet in search of a long lost science establishment and find just one survivor. He says the rest of the scientists all killed themselves for no reason.

And by the way, did they know that Apple tricorders come in six exciting colours.

The survivor is beamed up to Dr McCoy to look at while the away team tries to get to the bottom of the mystery. They find and begin to read the personal logs of the dead scientists.

Meanwhile, up on the Enterprise the survivor is asking Dr McCoy why he uses those crappy Star Fleet issue med scanners when the Apple ones are so much better and use IMAP as well.

On the planet surface Spock finds disturbing evidence among the logs that the scientists became increasingly despressed over a period of time, showing signs of irritability, frustration and aggression as the months passed. All of them except one.

Back on the ship the survivor is busy telling Chekov that the navigational computers in Apple-constructed ships have never been known to crash, unlike those crappy Star Fleet ones. Chekov is beginning to develop a nervous twitch.

Kirk and Spock get to the end of the logs and discover that the entire establishment was slowly driven insane by the man they've now let on to their ship. Realising the danger, they beam back ....

... to discover that Scotty is about step into an unshielded reactor chamber. They save him in the nick of time.

"I could'ne take it any more Captain", sobs Scotty. The survivor walks into the room.

"I'm not surprised," he says, "working on those engines would drive anyone insane. Now, if you had the new Apple iWarp, you'd be sweet.."

Kirk and Spock both draw their phasers and shoot. They are not set to stun.

Cue the Star Trek theme ....

619102 2007-12-08 22:32:00 Yes, well done Bruce... but I fear way too subtle for the intended survivor.

My Christmas Wish is to check out PF1 in the morning and not see endless posts by said survivor pushing a certain barrow.

I'll go as far as to say that if the crap doesn't stop it's likely I won't be around in the new year.

I know we don't have to read them, but we shouldn't have to put up with them either.
