2007-12-11 00:07:00 | Read here (news.bbc.co.uk), although surely this technology would cause a performance hit if it is checking everyfile, and i guess it would cause a sales hit for WD, seems odd to put it frankly that they would see this as somehing to help them sell drives | Morgenmuffel (187) | |

2007-12-11 13:21:00 | Western Digital has blocked users from sharing more than 30 different file types, if they are using the company's software, called Anywhere Access. it's just their retarded networking software that's all DRMed, not the drive itself.... though the whole DRM thing is stupid: if i've paid for a song/movie/whatever, i want to be able to play it on all of my devices and have a backup stored. if that means making a cd to put in my stereo, and another to leave in the car, along with a few mp3 files on my computer and mp3 player why can't i?

DRM makes pirating more worthwhile IMO - you are treated like a criminal whatever you do. |

2007-12-12 12:04:00 | It's not even DRM. It doesn't care who owns the rights to the content. You're just as unable to store your wedding videos on that as your 'pirated' DVD backups. | TGoddard (7263) | |
2007-12-12 20:54:00 | That really is sad. Really. If you are that desperate to use their software, you could always put it in a big ol' rar file, maybe password protected, or maybe PGP it, then rar, then zip, then bzip, then gzip. That should work (gzip is pretty rare). The goal is to obscure the content of it enough to let it pass (and that's if they even check the file headers/content, and not just the file extension). | ubergeek85 (131) | |
