619277 2007-12-08 23:17:00 Mobile phones such as Nokia N95, N82 comes with GPS feature .

Do I have to pay extra to vodafone in order to use this feature?

I've tried to asked some of the vodafone sales but all have their different answers . . . and get confused with GPRS :annoyed:

So I was wondering any members here uses one and can tell me the charges?

I have one of these to, the way I see it you need to get a gps unit with bluetooth and it connects to the phone, not really sure why or how this would be of benefit though

hi there

there should be no charges . they will work like any GPS device which acquire a signal from satellites . These satelites are paid for by i believe the US Air Force .

I think the GPS is built into the phone already.

That's what I thought too but vodafone sales tells me I need to join a data plan and it is not cheap ... :groan:

619282 2007-12-09 00:19:00 That depends if its a mobile/GPS phone, or if its a mobile and has the other separate GPS, as in satellite navigation on it.

Vodafone maybe getting confused.

Which one of the above is it?

619283 2007-12-09 01:03:00 Both the N95 and N82 have integrated GPS (Global Positioning Service). The GPS system itself is free (except that it's built into the phone price!). Vodafone may be referring to mobile data charges associated with using GPS software. Basic mapping software can be included on the phone but services like location-based advertising, web mapping (eg. Google Earth) etc may require the phone to connect to Vodafone's data network (and hence start costing). To clarify, GPRS is one of the mobile data service which cost to use.

You will want to clarify with Vodafone exactly what services they are charging you for. Identifying your location with the integrated GPS should NOT cost you anything.
