621297 2007-12-15 01:10:00 Thought I would throw the cat among the pigeons and relate the following story:

I had built up a substantial credit balance on my telecom account, and wanted to have some of it returned to me. So I rang 123, and was greeted by the computer, which informed me that it could understand whatever I said. So I said "credit refund' and it connected me (within 10 seconds) to a person who knew what I needed (a credit refund), and was able to do it on the spot. 60 seconds later, the refund was organised to go into my account, which turned up two days later. All this took about two minutes, and was during the lunch break as well. Given all the bad hype about Telecom's poor customer service, I was pleasantly surprised.

As good as Telecom was in organising the refund, Xnet were better. Same deal - needed a credit refund - I emailed their general sales email address, and just laid out what I needed. A reply came back an hour later, and the refund was deposited into my account 12 hours later.

Who says telcos are not good customer service providers? <ducks> :D

621298 2007-12-15 01:41:00 Agreed.

Telecom get some bad press, but earlier in the year I went to get my phone connected to where I am now.

Was a Saturday night, about 6pm when I rang. Spoke to an operator, she took all my details, and I was told the credit people would ring me in the morning. On a Sunday I asked? Yes.

Nice....

At 9:30 that night (Sat), the phone rang. Lovely lady from the credit area on the phone. Everything all good, phone will be connected by noon Monday.

Nice....didn't need it for a few days anyway.

Phone line was up and running by 9am the next morning. Sunday!

Impressed? Hell yes!

The saga getting a dial-up account is the exact opposite...just to keep things balanced! :D

621299 2007-12-15 02:07:00 Consider yourself lucky you got a refund. The amount of times I spent on the phone to Telecom trying to get a refund, "It will happen next month" all that bs.

In the end I never got it (Was only $30) and moved to Xnet (not over the refund, but over the crappy speeds)

621300 2007-12-15 02:14:00 I'm sure for every good comment about telecom, there’s 20 negative comments.

One time they over charged me by $30, 2 months in a row, they had charged me twice for dialup, this was some years ago, and I rang them up about it, wanting it credited off my account, They said they would do that.

So what’s the problem? well they told me that I had to pay the $60.00 first and they would credit off my next months bill. I was not happy with this, as at the time I was broke and I couldn't afford to pay the extra $60, but she told me if I didn't pay the bill in total, with the $60, they would cut my phone off.

Now that’s complete BS, it was their mistake, they admitted it, it should have been taken off then and there, Not next month, which would have made it a lot easier for me to pay my account

Now how’s this:

My GF got the phone put on in our new place, with dial up, a few years ago now, before then I was staying with my GF and she had the phone and net on under her old flatmates name.

Anyways we got it hooked back up in our new place, she closed that old flaty’s account and opened up a new one, the lady asked what user name we wanted, my GF asked if we could use the old one, no problems. The lady said.

However, it turned out to be a huge problem and I'm still paying off a $3,000 phone bill, because of it.

Her old flatmate was charged internet usage by the hour under our user name, $5.00 an hour, instead of it being put on my GF unlimited dial up account.

So for 2 months we surfed the net for $5.00 per hour, costing $3000.
We were getting her old flatmates telecom bills, but never opened them, until they sent the second bill, cause it seemed strange, so we opened it.

I rang them up, and they said that there was nothing they could do, we had been using an account user name that had been closed so we incurred the charges.

I explained the scenario and they could see what happened, but they weren’t willing to come to the party
I said who in their right mind would surf the net at $5.00 an hour for like 600 hours! The telecom guy said nobody. I said exactly.

I could have taken it further, but didn’t feel it was worth the effort.
The whole thing has left me fuming

621301 2007-12-15 02:31:00 Mines better .

Husbands 027 phone died . Eventually he gave up and accepted the fact that for the first time ever he'd have to actually buy a new one from Telecom .

Went online and ordered the cheapest, nastiest . $99, with credit of $49 .

Waited for the extra large bill .

Waited, waited, waited, still waiting .

Hey, guess he still hasn't had to buy one .

If $3000 wasn't worth your effort don't expect any sympathy here :D

I've experience of working on the technical side where you were expected to become more and more efficient and account for every hour and $ yet the operators on 123 could write off all sorts of amounts without any real examination of the facts. You give up too easily.

I agree, every time I have phoned telecom, I get through almost instantly . Xnet are also good, and reply to email swithin a day, and answer phone calls within 5 minutes .
However not all telcos are the same . Slingshot for instance is a totally different story . They totally ignore emails, and you can be waiting for telephone support for over 30 minutes .

Telecoms billing system however is another story . I logged on to view my bill online, and then found out that they had cancelled my paper statements without clearly displaying that that would happen if I logged in online . If you then want a paper statement, they will charge you $5 for a copy . They have been getting heaps of compliants about it, but they are looking at fixing it . I have reverted back to paper statements only At least I could get through to them instantly on the phone to fix the problem .

621305 2007-12-15 09:23:00 A Telecom "instant" could be up to all day. And has been too. R2x1 (4628)
