780068	2009-06-06 06:42:00	Have passed on my old pc to Mum 83 yrs old for email etc. It was four months since I had used it. First connections on Internet have seen Microsoft trying to update patches via dialup.....probably two days and nights worth...... she turned it off after 35% downloaded in 12 hours. Is it possible for me to transfer updates from my braodband pc to disk then to hers? Cheers,:confused: "Things today are more like they've ever been than before"	bernz (14430)

780071	2009-06-06 08:54:00	Nah, update it to SP3 if it isn't then disable automatic updates. make sure she has some anti-malware and forget about it after that. Mines still on SP1 with no further updates and I can tell you I don't have a problem. She's hardly going to be going onto dodgy sites so she will be fine with it like that.	pctek (84)
780072	2009-06-07 09:08:00	Like pctek I am still on SP1 without updates, and no issues. Also, I'm on dial up and because of the large size of the SP up date (75 MB I think), I have not bothered. But as noted make sure you mother runs essential malware/spyware, etc - and knows how to update. Even on auto mode, still pays to update/check manually occasionally. When my mother had PC issues, she would print out pages of forum/support notes - but I now email her basic instructions and remind her of new upgrades for malware. Maybe you could do the same; For updates, perhaps you could contact Microsoft NZ, and ask them if they have update discs...	kahawai chaser (3545)
