621765 2007-12-19 06:42:00 I must say, I'm happy with the poll results so far.

That's nice.

May I suggest a third option in cases like this along the lines of "interested, but too busy to find the time to get head around it".

Not all poll results need to be so black and white.

But hey, it's your poll, so I'll shut up now. :p

621769 2007-12-21 01:03:00 Just as I find partial birth abortions where they allow the body except for the head to pass thru the vagina and then proceed to suck the brains out of the baby to kill it is barbaric .

now that really is wrong - how can they still deem that acceptable getting off on a technicality?

sure, the morning after pill or otherwise aborting while the thing is still only a small clump of cells (and in no way conscious) i can agree with, but pulling it out and then killing a far developed baby?

i'm for aborting, but not as it stands - give it a month tops - but there is the argument that if the decision to abort is made at 6 moths it really should be happening

now here's the tricky bit with abortion/embryo harvesting: at which point is a potential human actually a person? many people think it's always a person and draw the line at seperate sperm and unfertilised egg, many think if it's not yet capable of consciousness or is still only a small growth) it isn't a person, while legally it's not a person until it completely leaves the mother

so where you draw the line will ultimately affect your stance on abortion and embryo harvesting

Just knowing here that I am going to open a new bag of discourse, I also refuse to practice cannibalism by accepting human body parts for transplant .

A pig heart valve, OK . . . but a human heart valve . . No .

I would therefor not accept any human stem-cell applications to be implanted into my own body .

cannibalism?! in a heart transplant you don't eat the bloody thing for nourishment! you receive, with permission of the donor and family, the organ from a suitable donor that has died despite the best efforts of medical staff etc

i am an organ donor - if i am killed and my remains can be used to save another life i most definetly would want that person to benefit from my tragedy

likewise, if i was in need of blood or organs, i would gladly accept them rather than just lay there dying .

why have several people die instead of only one? you aren't killing for it; they would die anyway . i even condone actual cannabilism (as per it's definition, eating human flesh) if it will save lives without causing a death (but be sure to cook that stuff)

i cannot understand any rationale against it that isn't rooted in religious bias - in which case it's fine for someone to refuse treatment for themselves (same for euthanasia) but not to bar treatment for others, which in itself akin to murder

621770 2007-12-21 04:05:00 Nice set-up . . . but you KNOW my philosophy . . and I had it long before learning what I now know .

I'm not going to debate . . as this was an OPINION poll, not a platform for conversion .

As to cannibalism . . . I FEEL that taking food or body parts into my body . . . either thru mouth or medical intervention is about the same thing . That is MY stand, and is my conscience call . . not a spiritual statement . . . be careful to know what you are saying .

There is NO requirement that I abstain from body-part swaps . . hearts, lungs, kidneys or whatever . . . . that's MY stand as I see it . . . . and again, I don't debate that so don't try that bait with me .

Oh gosh, I forgot about that. English humour is such a great thing. Just requires a certain mindset to understand it. Brings to mind all the Yank cover versions of some wonderful UK TV shows over the years. Nuff said!!
