621966 2007-12-17 18:45:00 My experience is that a cat's presence is all that is usually required. The cat leaves it's scent all around so meeces know not to hang around. We have never seen a mouse in or near our house for the past 30 years. Great deterrent!

Mercury, your pussycats are proud of what they have done and are showing you how good they are - they are looking for your approval. Show them that you are pleased but also make it clear that the doorstep is far enough.

Despite what most people think, cats are as easy to train as any other animal. My daughter is a vet's nurse and she is a great advocate for a trained cat. And why not? You don't allow your dog to do as he pleases.

So, Greven, get yourself a pussycat. They can be a great mate, they require less attention than a dog and those nasty little meeces stay away.

"I hate you meeces to pieces!"

Ken ;)If you're going to use a shotty in the house, then a 20 gauge is probably better than a 12 gauge... less noise, smoke and damage to furniture and fittings, but with sufficent 'shock and awe' to kill mice, even if your aim is off a tad... ;)

621969 2007-12-18 00:45:00 The peanut butter did the trick - it stole everything else I tried without setting off the trap. It even managed to lick one peanut butter trap clean without setting it off, but the other one go him :) Greven (91)
621970 2007-12-18 04:22:00 They l...u...u...u...u...ve peanut butter, ha ha, especially the crunchy type. You just need to put a bit on with your fingertip on the trigger tray. zqwerty (97)

Perhaps a superior mouse is evolving in Invercargill

621973 2007-12-20 20:31:00 Ah. The mouse had friends (or family)! Keep baiting the traps - they obviously enjoy the peanut butter, and they can't keep avoiding the inevitable. The house always wins! johcar (6283)
621974 2007-12-20 21:38:00 I could lend you Snuffs, she'd have it out and eaten in 30 seconds then she'd hunt down and slaughter the rest of the family too.

My late cat Penny was like that. She was kind of an idiot savant. Thick as two short planks and a wimp to boot in most respects. She'd sit and watch birds eat her food without making a move.

But when it came to rodents! When the sun went down she turned into some kind of rodent-catching cat ninja. We used to wake up and find half eaten rodents on the back porch and for years could never quite believe she was responsible for it. Until the night she jumped through the lounge window with a live one clamped between her teeth.
