622292 2007-12-19 04:25:00 One of my friends at school has a copy of Linux on his flash drive. Boot from it, and the school can't track you. :DOnly as long as that computer isn't connected to the Internet through the school network. Graham L (2)

That's based on a false assumption that booting off a flash drive magically changes the MAC address of the PC's network card...

Pretty silly admins that allow booting from anything other than the HDD.
BIOS should have a password on it too.

622295 2007-12-20 02:57:00 Detention for using Firefox? Millions of users have had far worse punishment every week for using I.E.

622297 2007-12-20 04:12:00 You don't have to boot you can just run Firefox Portable from the flash drive. zqwerty (97)
622298 2007-12-20 09:33:00 At course (not school, not uni, sort of a middle ground), we run whatever we want, although all the good computers run Win2k with some restrictions (aka I need to ask the tutor to log me in as the admin so I can install stuff). I am bemused that they haven't got firefox installed normally (most students run Internet exploder, and version 6 at that. One day they will discover tabs...). I don't understand why schools use IE anyway, but it ain't called a monopoly for nothing. ubergeek85 (131)
622299 2007-12-20 10:50:00 i remember the days of computers at high school where it was a constant battle with the security measures to the point where it became a challenge to get around them

then i get to uni and OMG i can right click again! and they have both ie and ff installed! and i'm yet to have any issues withs ecurit at all - they encourage the use of flash drives and the dvd/cd drives are usable too....

though there is complaints that for some reason youtube doesn't count for people's data usage; so you get twats sitting on machines in full labs browsing youtube while you actually need a machine to get some work done/print some stuff

/sidetrack

that detention was a hoax, very obvious too
