779858 2009-06-05 05:22:00 Hi everyone,

I am selling my lappy at the moment and trying to build my first desktop.

I don't know which motherboard to buy.

Could anyone please give me some suggestions?

My criteria:

needs to be cheap, because i am on a tight budget.
needs to support intel processors.
needs to to be crossfire ready.

optional criteria:

support intel core i7 cpu, to make it a bit more future proof

Thanks for your help everyone, cheers.

779859 2009-06-05 05:53:00 Well if youre on a budget. I7 isnt an option, its expensive. The mobo itself is $400+. And the CPU's are 400+. On one site, (these are 775 pin with xfire), the ASUS P5Q-E is $320 + GST, the DFI LANPARTY-JR P45-T2RS $275+GST. P5Q Pro, $259+GST. The rest are AMD (the cheapest being $219+GST). 779860 2009-06-05 05:57:00 There are no motherboards that support both i7 and other intel processors, as they use a different socket.

I suggest a P5Q-Pro, around 200 I think, supports crossfire and is quite good.

779861 2009-06-05 06:22:00 thnks for the reply speedy.

yeah that core i7 is out of the equation now.

what do we think of this one?

it is SLI ready, but as long as it supports dual graphic cards I don't really care.

779862 2009-06-05 06:25:00 Hmm, looks quite nice with 2 full Speed X16 slots.

I would ask if any overclocking has been done it it before.

779863 2009-06-05 06:34:00 Thanks for the reply blam6 :), i shall ask the seller that. is there anything else i should lookout for or ask the seller? I really have no experience regarding this area.. :P

and that P5Q-Pro, they sell it on TradeMe for $270, that is out of my budget. but it does look nice tho...on pricespy all I can find is P5QL-PRO, and it only has 1 PCI slot......

and by the way why does it matter if overclocking has been done on the motherboard or not?

and does this look doggy and fishy to your trained eye?

thnks for the help. cheers

260 here, in budget yet?:p

Nothing dodgy probably about that mobo, it'll bid up to around 160 at least though.

Ask the seller about previous history of the mobo, he hasn't mentioned any of that yet.

779865 2009-06-05 09:24:00 Ummm....no...not really. I cant really spend more than $200 on a mobo... :(, other wise I will have to cut back the money I am spending on RAM and case and stuff....thanks so much for the help tho, it is much much appreciated.. :) powerover (12121)
779866 2009-06-05 09:32:00 Just get a P5K. It's what I have and it supports all Core 2 CPUs out, except I think the latest stepping of the QX9650. Which I assume you won't be getting anytime soon? :D qazwsxokmijn (102)
779867 2009-06-05 09:52:00 Recommend P5Q - Pro or P5Q-E. or why not aim higherand go for the P5Q3 which takes DDR3 Ram.
Bite the bullet and pay that little more now, rather than aim low and regret it and have to upgrade sooner.
