623682 2007-12-22 23:12:00 After only four years the sealant around our Shower is showing signs of
black which I presume is mould. Is there any way of preventing this?.
Any hints on overcoming this problem would be appreciated.

623683 2007-12-22 23:51:00 Remove it.
Go to Placemakers or a bathroom shop and buy this stuff called Ever White I think it was.

Apply strictly according to directions.

End of problem.

623684 2007-12-22 23:58:00 Use a craft knife/scalpel with a new blade to carefully remove the old sealant. Clean with Exit Mould or bleach or similar. Allow to dry. Then re-seal with a Selly's or similar bathroom sealant product.

Patience and careful removing and reapplying is the key.

623685 2007-12-23 00:27:00 Mould is caused by moisture, maybe you could have your shower converted to a dry cleaner model.:groan:
Or sue the council for insufficient chlorine in the water. :yuck:

Your comments sound a bit expensive and impractical to me!!.

No, no, the Ever White. All the rest will eventually get mould again.

Have noted that and will give it a try. Cheers.

623690 2007-12-23 05:33:00 As I found out . . . almost any sealer with silicon in it has a certain amount of arsenic in it to retard mold and mildew . . . but it washes away after a while and then the fungus shows up .

There is a warning to NOT use silicon as a sealer for the inside of dishwashers for just this same reason . Arsenic is counter-productive to animal life .

If you have used silicon . . . and I think that's a big mistake . . . I'd remove it as above and use a product called Geoseal . . or really almost any sealer without silicon as the base chemical .

623691 2007-12-23 07:32:00 Using Exit Mould can get rid most of the mould. It's actually chlorine. Just spray and wait for 30 mins to 1 hour. Can get them from Pak n save. Taurus (9579)
