623446 2007-12-21 21:45:00 Righto, A question.

Just picked up a replacement home theatre amp, First step in the manual states, in no uncertain terms to run my picture signal into the amp from my DVD player, and then to my TV.

It gives no reason why I should, Just that I should.

Any ideas?

Sounds like snake oil to me.

623447 2007-12-21 22:05:00 Yes, because then the amp controls where and how the output signal is delivered, ie:, TV or projector, rca, s-video or dvi-d/i

edit-, also Melta, you may have another input (console, camera), that you want to send to said tv\projector. The theatre controls which input signal to use...sky\dvd..

623448 2007-12-21 22:08:00 Sweet, I don't need that, Nor want it, But I can now at least see its use.

Edit.

Now I think about it, I may want to use it, I have multiple items plugged into my amp and TV.

Yep, its rubbish. My tv has 3 AV inputs and I just use that for video switching. Yes, using the AV Amp for video switching is tidier but more switching/inputs/outputs potentially introduces more "noise".

623450 2007-12-22 00:52:00 I decided against using the amp to switch video feeds, I routinely run music though the speakers from the PC while playing video games on the TV.

That requires separate control over inputs.

623451 2007-12-22 06:29:00 Thats a shame you boys took that direction, my HT has 1 TV output and 1 Projector output, it has Sky,DVD & PC input. The odd game console and camera\video record also....

I think its a much better way of controlling A/V?..Not sure why DD would complain about noise, that comes down to cable\signal quality!?

623452 2007-12-22 09:37:00 One of these (www.imagef1.net.nz) in each corner should handle the sound, then it's just a matter of sorting the video out. Unfortunately when you add in some reasonably large subs, the thing gets a bit unwieldy for portability. R2x1 (4628)

I also don't want my AV amp on all the time just to be able to "video switch". You are probably right that most people wouldn't notice if the AV amp was in or out of the video circuit but like Mets (now), I choose not to use it.

Anyway all things being equal one piece of wire is better than that same piece of wire with a lump of AV Amp in the way (what purist thinking :D ).

Now thats what I call big hooters.
