| 622638 | 2007-12-18 23:43:00 | Ok i have been under the rocks for the last 5 yrs so i need some basic info on Apple IPodn in particular Ipod Nano 3rd Gen I am gonna buy IPod Nano (3rd Generation - wide screen) My question is : to store music in IPod, will they all have to be in MP3 format? Does it play avi files or other formats? Also to copy the files into IPod, can i just drag n drop mp3 files via Windows explorer. when IPod is plugged into PC or does it come with proprietory software? Also is IPod really picky on having "genuine" content stored in it i.e can u just about dump any mp3 file into IPod Nano an dlisten to it? And whats the deal with Itunes Store - Is it compulsory to use it n pruchase music from the online store. Can u buy tunes from other sites or only Apple? Thanks so much - i know these are really basic Q but i have not clue at all |

And no it doesnt work by drop and dragging like some other media players. Well depends if the videos have DRM or whatever on it, or if you buy it from the store. If you dont, it shouldnt have a prob. You only really need Itunes, if you want to sync contacts and the calendar in Outlook. |

| 622645 | 2007-12-20 22:48:00 | Thanks Guys Just one more question - Is there several differences between IPod Nano n IPod Classic From what the Apple site lists, Classic hass bigger capacity n bigger screen - Is there anything else to it? Also since IPod plays mp4s only - to convert from mp3 can the freebie Itunes do the job or is there some subscription ot it that needs to be done? Also with just normal Audio CD, i guess i just pop the CD in and use ITunes to convert wav file into mp4?? Is that correct Thanks |

As for mp4, you might be thinking of the DRM'd files from the iTunes store, but you dont have to buy those. |

| 622647 | 2007-12-20 22:59:00 | Ipods can play mp3s without converting them. Who says they can't? The ipod classic has a harddrive instead of flash memory, and you should be able to fit your entire music collection on it, which you prob won't be able to do with a nano. Also the screen on the nano is very small to view video on, where the classic screen is an ok size. |
