780665 2009-06-08 21:40:00 Hi there guys, first of all thanks for helping decide me to my mobo and case, now I'm stuck on deciding which CPU and graphics card to buy.
here is a list of CPUs that my mobo supports:

www.xfxforce.com

CPU:

for around $350 I can get a core 2 quad Q8200 at 2.33GHZ (note this CPU is NOT on that list..I'm quite stunned actually, but anyway will it still work with my mobo?)

for around $337 I can get a core 2 dual E8400 at 3GHZ

which one should I get? should I go for the number of cores or speed?

Now here comes the graphics card:

My criteria:

it must be SLI ready

$300-ish...preferably some where around the $250 mark (I will only go down and not up this time :P)

here is what I have in mind, it is a bit too expensive tho:

any suggestions?

Hey once again thanks soo much for your time and help, it is much appreciated

780667 2009-06-08 21:57:00 For gaming the single most important component is the graphics card.

Therefore you should get the highest spec card you can afford.
And take a cut on the CPU if you have to.

780668 2009-06-08 22:14:00 Yeah i would go for the core 2 duo for gaming and get that 250 gtx would kick ar se Gobe1 (6290)
780669 2009-06-08 22:18:00 E8400 + 4870 is what I would get. Just make sure the E8400 is the E0 stepping. qazwsxokmijn (102)

So say E0 stepping vs C1 - E0 is better. Overclocks better and runs slightly cooler.

4870 is ATI. Did you want to SLI down the track?

780673 2009-06-09 00:01:00 Yeah. I want to SLI it sometime down the road, so it must be SLI compatible :P

Thnks for your info tho, cheers.

780674 2009-06-09 01:23:00 SLI and Xfire are NOT viable upgrade paths IMHO. By the time you are ready to buy the 2nd card, new DX API's are released, and the card your after has been superceded, or are just a pain in the a$$ to keep running. Dont fall for the marketing hype.

Next generation cards are usually 80-90% of the power of previous generation SLI\Xfire cards, run better, support the newer DX API and also usually the around the same price as the 1st card you bought.....

Besides which, UNLESS you are running native Full HD on your LCD with AA\AF, most single cards will do the trick.

Edit: Cost for the motherboard in also more expensive
