I agree, I think that sometimes the death penalty would be a lesser sentance than life in prison- Life I mean US Life not NZ

Plus the chance of killing somebody innocent is too great.

622725 2007-12-19 08:31:00 I look forward to having the fallacy of my argument exposed. :D

Hate to disappoint ya! :p

You gonna kill someone on the basis of a jury considering the person to be irrefutably guilty?

The thought of that puts the ****s up me!

PS: I agree wholeheartedly with your Bain/Watson comment.

But if the death penalty is a lesser sentence than life, wouldn't that screw the innocent even more? ;)

Well if they were alive at least they would be able to continue to plead their innocence, take David Bain for example, he would have been killed if we had the death penalty, now he walks amongst us.

I'm not saying he’s innocent, just a good example for somebody who has been alive to protest his innocence and has at least been given a new trial. Now if he was dead, he would never have gotten that chance.

622733 2007-12-19 09:29:00 Why did I post this if I did not discussion? Of course I wanted discussion. But nobody has yet come back with an opinion on my original question. What gives you the right to judge, and when you have rightly or wrongly, judged them, to deal out their punishment?

A thinking man might ponder the question: "What gives you the right to stand in judgement over those who deal out punishment to persons they see as breaking their own peculiar moral code?"

Get real, the world and its on-going traumas revolve around differences of opinion over codes of behaviour and anything & everything else in the whole gamut of human behaviour, from talking to un-related men, calling teddy bears Mohammed; being Jewish, not being Jewish; being Catholic, not being Catholic; not giving a toss about any form of religion; Ford vs Holden; boy racer vs power pole; gay vs straight, celibacy vs...I dunno....death?, male vs female, Speights vs donkey's urine, Lion vs weasel piss; bank robbers vs real estate agents; mac vs a padded cell.......

I could go on for ever, but life is about celebrating difference, and who here wouldn't celebrate just a little when they heard that a child molestor was forced to bite off his own dick, or worse; or some ghastly equivalent fate for a female child molester (yes, they do exist and in larger numbers than you might think) so for heavens sake quit preaching at us, go make some placards, stand in the middle of the motorway (any motorway) at rush hour and imagine you are Moses. It won't quite be the red sea parting, but there should be a few good clear tire tracks through what's left of you.

Intolerant, moi?

Never

Cheers
