623949 2007-12-23 02:11:00 I hardly think I endanger anyones life if I hit 111KM on the open road, Though I would be endangering others if I crossed the median strip and struck another car head on, No matter what speed I was doing. Metla (12)
623950 2007-12-23 02:14:00 Yep - then you get the Mobile ones - we have at least 3 that I know of down here, they have both a green or white Van, with darkened side windows, and clear rear window, they sit on the side of the road in grass edges, fully visable, but no indication they have a speed cam in the back. One sits outside my neighbours house, I sometimes give it a two finger wave  as I pull into my drive. Wont get me at 10 K going up the drive.

And these are triggered by trips?

623951 2007-12-23 02:25:00 Now look at this,
I gave up on this web site, it seems to be over taken by a lot of law breaking people, contrary to this forum web site rule book they gives everyone or me the impression that breaking the law in cracking password software to gain software by not paying for it is wrong, surly this thread is going part way in having rule book double standards .

So I go to the newspaper web site http://www.nzherald.co.nz/ and wait for it ........... what do I see top of the main page ..............

Officer injured after dragged 40m by car

A police officer has a broken leg and possible broken ankle after being dragged 40 metres by a car when he tried to breath test its driver. The officer had stopped the 18-year-old woman on Brownston…More www.nzherald.co.nz

The reason why we have these speed limits & stop drunks on the road is to make it safer for all of us, it is about time that EVERYONE is made to respect the law and those who try and enforce it, banning the radar detector is just one small step.

623952 2007-12-23 02:29:00 Ban idiots instead.

Of course, That removes the revenue stream.

So,lets just let em all drive, and charge em heaps.

623953 2007-12-23 03:02:00 Why anyone actually needs to break the speed limit is beyond me. The limits are perfectly fast enough for our roads as it is.
How many times do we hear people talk about 'safe speeding'. What you think might be a safe situation can all change unexpectedly in a fraction of a second. By then, it's all too late.

I agree with that. Put whatever limit you like, there will always be those people who have to go faster than that and think they are safe drivers so it doesn't apply to them.

But its the unexpected appearing in front of you that they should think about. Whats the biug rush anyway?

623954 2007-12-23 04:43:00 Its all good and all that people think they are good drivers. Really though that amounts to nothing. You have no control of what others are doing. Maybe if we all just laid off the pedal a tad we may have more time to react when needed.

As usual Metla, you cut right to the heart of the issue!

623956 2007-12-23 05:27:00 Well, to me, everyone will just hide them now, they're audio, not visual. If you get pulled over, hide it in the glove box.

Er, wouldn't a cop notice you hiding the thing as he was walking up to you? I would. And radar-detector-detectors exist (en.wikipedia.org) (en.wikipedia.org), so that would help cops find them.
Banning them just makes them more valuable, a black market trade would come up for them, mostly because they're illegal I think. Buy up now!
My father had one a while ago (along with a turbocharged subaru legacy, 200+ km's/h down a 1.3km long road with a sharp bend at the end of it, but that's another story).
He did use it to avoid fines, until it was stolen from his van, but the point of it is that most people who own them do use them to break the law without being caught. If you were determined to use one, I guess you could slap one behind the front grill and run some wires back to a spot under the dash, and no one is the wiser (except the cop with the radar-detector-detector).
Driving ability varies from person to person, some people shouldn't even have a license, whereas some people could safely drive at 120+ km's/h (on the open road at least). Er, I forgot the rest of my rant...

A good unit has all the camera locations in NZ in its database, and should update itself as new sites are used. They would have to be bloody good if the Cams are mobile

623958 2007-12-23 10:11:00 Radar detectors used to work ok, but nowadays the filth use pulse. Which means you detect only when you get a reflected pulse or you've been pinged. Not much point in having one from where I stand. Use your head Phil B (648)
