| 623643 | 2007-12-29 02:42:00 | So Guys do you think that the Stepper motor could have cause me this problem I mentioned that happened quite a while ago.... I did have a problem about 5 months ago, where the car would turn over but wouldn't start, I ended up towing it to my mechanic to look at, I went to pick it up and he hadnt looked at it, he tried to start it and it started straight away, I asked him what the problem was, he said he didn't know, because it wasn't doing it, anyway he offered a tune up :) I said how much... he said $200, I said nah don't worry bout it.and it started sweet as. So this time I didn't worry about it. Thanks |

| 623644 | 2007-12-29 02:50:00 | So Guys do you think that the Stepper motor could have cause me this problem I mentioned that happened quite a while ago.... Thanks That guy who told you he couldn't find the problem was not telling the truth...the ECM takes a movie when it spots a problem and will retell what the throttle position was, the altitude and the air density, the RPM, the engine load and what gear you were in and all sorts of other things. At best, he is technically suspect and mechanically defective..unless you married his sister then he's just a bro-in-law and needs to be ignored anyway. I would guess if the situation doesn't raise it's head in a short while, you got away with it for now. It might do an "Arnie" and return...but let that happen if and when it does. Don't lose any sleep about it. BTW: This "stepper motor" is actually called an ISC. |

| 623645 | 2007-12-30 12:31:00 | Thanks SJ, Hope I killed two problems with one stone. Nah my usual mechanic is pretty good, but when I took it to him when it wouldn't start, it started straight away and he said he needed to see it happening, or not happening as the case maybe to know what the problem was. I thought it seemed strange that he couldn't offer me any help other than, he would do a tune up, But 'm not a mug, that wasn't fixing my problem, hey it may have, but as it turns out it wouldn't have. My mate who is a qualified tractor mechanic said if my car ever breaks down he would look at it for free, cause I'm all ways fixing his computer for nothing. So when it wouldn't start I thought I'd take him up on his offer, but he had no idea why it wouldnt start, and I can't say I was surprised, disappointed maybe be. but he did tow me to my mechanic. But because it was working ok at the time nothing was done about it and it seems to go away, but I was expecting it to come back. But I wasn't taking a hit and a miss on it just needing a pricey tune up. I wish I knew more bout cars, I reckon could have replaced that part myself. I know a bit about the basic stuff but that's about it. When I picked up the car from being fixed at this different garage, I asked the boy who had worked on it if it was the ISC? I was expecting a quick Yes, but he didn't know what I was talking about?? :stare: The receptionist was there and she said he replaced the stepper motor whatever that is she exclaimed! I knew it had to be the ISC, but just wanted to confirm it. Thanks again SJ |

ISCs are simple enough, and your shop did you no slight disservice by not calling it that . . . after all youse guys talks about "wobblies" and "chockey fish" and other out-worldly terms that leave me rather mystified . . and so a stepper motor isn't surprising to me . Technically, it's correct . . but rather misleading to call it that I feel . I think Alfred E . Newman said it succinctly: "It's crackers with the dropsy to slip a rozzer in snide" . It means absolutely nothing to me either . Cowabunga, dudes and dudettes . |
