623945 2007-12-23 01:51:00 ...part of a road safety strategy the police and Transport Safety Minister Harry Duynhoven have released today. Such strategies come from the department responsible for enforcing the law, not the government. A National government minister would have released an identical statement announcing the "strategy". So would a minister from the NZ First, ACT, Christian Heritage, or the McGillicuddy Serious Party. Graham L (2)
623946 2007-12-23 01:57:00 Post mounted Speed Cams will catch more speeders than any Radar will - Radar detectors wont tell you if a Cams Mounted, thats controlled by "trips"

Yes they will, and do, A good unit has all the camera locations in NZ in its database, and should update itself as new sites are used.

 I do agree with that.

But...with regards to radar detectors.

If you don't break the speed limit, then you have nothing to worry. The only reason for having one is if you like to break the speed limit but don't like to get caught. And if you don't like getting caught then you only have yourself to blame if and when you do.
I don't object to speed cameras/traps at all. Think of it as a voluntary tax. I'd much rather have a voluntary tax than a compulsory one.
And if you think it's yet another restriction on our freedoms, then ask yourself why anyone should have the freedom to endanger other people's lives.
Far too many innocent people get killed on the road at the hands of stupid idiots who think it's their 'right' to drive how the way they like.
The only thing that I do object to is the inadequate enforcement of driving standards here. Speed is more or less the only focus. There are so many other aspects of driving that need attention if we are to improve road safety.

Why anyone actually needs to break the speed limit is beyond me. The limits are perfectly fast enough for our roads as it is.
How many times do we hear people talk about 'safe speeding'. What you think might be a safe situation can all change unexpectedly in a fraction of a second. By then, it's all too late.

Yep - then you get the Mobile ones - we have at least 3 that I know of down here, they have both a green or white Van, with darkened side windows, and clear rear window, they sit on the side of the road in grass edges, fully visable, but no indication they have a speed cam in the back. One sits outside my neighbours house, I sometimes give it a two finger wave  as I pull into my drive. Wont get me at 10 K going up the drive. wainuitech (129)
