622474 2007-12-19 02:28:00 But didn't I hear a report of someone in the Dept of Justice say, just a few days ago, that "prisoners don't go to prison to be punished"??

No wonder they keep re-offending, if the people employed to manage them have an attitude like that!!

But this is definitely getting off-topic....

They don't go to prison to be punished, they are meant to go to be rehabilitated so they can safely be released back into society - but when it's easier for these people to live in jail than in the real world, what you end up with is a free hotel.

622475 2007-12-20 08:26:00 This is merely giving back what should never have taken in the first place. We have been over-taxed for goodness knows how long now. And giving the cuts in election year? Puhleeeeze! Good one Cullen! (not) Like we can't see through the attempt to buy votes...

Give us our money back!

Anyway, lest we forget :

~ the PM doing 180kph to a rugby match
~ the cock-ups by Benson-Pope, Mallard and Taito Philip-Field et al
~ the PM's reluctance to do anything about wayward ministers
~ the painted apple moth spraying fiasco
~ the proposed "fart tax"
~ pandering to minority interests (e.g. support for the "anti-smacking" bill)
~ not acting on the referendum we had to get tougher on criminals (>90%)
~ over-taxing us forever
~ stifling/limiting/constraining freedom of speech in a democracy
~ political interference in the operation of various ministries
~ the "pledge card" fiasco
~ the "sedition" debacle

Need I go on?

I'm sure I've missed plenty. Dis-affected voters please post here to remind everyone of Labours stuff-ups for the past 3 terms.....

622476 2007-12-20 10:30:00 more money for nurses and teachers who are otherwise much better off in any other industry - if they can pay a cop 50k a year after 6 months training, why does a high school teacher who could be in industry only get 35-40k after 5 years getting a degree plus teaching degree? same for nurses who arguably have a much higher stress job than police and teachers combined!

the tax cuts are a blatant bribe to stay in power, and for that reason alone we should be declining the measly $15 a week
plus i hear minimum wage went up or is going up to $12/hr - good way to drive inflation:thumbs:

what they SHOULD do is seeing as all the tax systems are (should be) computerised, automatically calculate personal tax refunds and pay them! why should i have to give them my money and then prove that is isn't theirs?

I like the smirky look Cullen gives us as he suggests he might give back some of the money he has stolen from us.

And who decided to buy $170000 cars for this bunch of no hopers?

It would make you cry if you spent too much time thinking about the fact that lots of folks out there are going to vote for another dose from this lot.

622480 2007-12-20 20:40:00 Rather than a tax cut I would like to see my taxation into education rather than health. If people are educated then hopefully they will learn to look after their health. Education means learning. Learn not to use "P" and learn to drive a car on the left of the road for example. Learn the difference between right and wrong. Learn to communicate. I think people have to learn how to learn.

Then the people need teachers, role models, family and others in whom you put your trust.

Most people in New Zealand drive on the left hand side of the road. Some do not as they come from another country and it is instictive to be on the right.
Others in New Zealand lose control of the vehicle due to alcohol, drugs, weather conditions, distraction due to passengers or cellphones and etc.

Then people have to modify the bahaviour according to experience.

In the event I put my hand on a hot plate I may have to be in Hospital.

There are diseases like AIDS and if you take the risk by having a naughty with a person you could end up in hospital as well.

I take a risk every day. There is always a risk.
A comet or meteor may hit where I live. There is more chance that will happen than me winning LOTTO. I do not buy LOTTO tickets.

622481 2007-12-20 20:59:00 I am sick of that condescending @#$%# Michael Cullen who talks down to us, says we can't afford tax cuts for 8 years when clearly we can, says we have to keep having the highest interest rates in the developed world, and says we have to accept our low wages and that we should stay here to enjoy his good management.

To try to spend suggests you think they should have in first place, when in fact they should try to rob us less from the start.
