780675 2009-06-09 01:41:00 I want to SLI it sometime down the road, so it must be SLI compatible :P

Then get a 280GTX.
But its not worth it, 2 cards for twice the price for a small performance gain, no where near double.
I tried it once and wouldn't bother again.

780676 2009-06-09 02:44:00 the only Nvidia Card in that price range worth considering is the GTS 250 which is pretty much a repackaged 9800GTX+

For CPU I'd suggest the Dual core if Budget is your main concern as most games still dont utilise 4 cores so a faster clocked Dual core can outperform a slower clocked quad, However my feeling is that this will change more and more in the future as Quad is becoming standard in the next Gen of CPU's

780677 2009-06-09 03:30:00 yeah dugimodo, I agree with you on this one, the reason I am considering the quad core is because things will change in the future and more and more things will use more and more cores....so I should probably get that quad core cpu and 250 GTS then...
but that quad core CPU is not listed on the cpu compatibility list...which is weird....

could any one tell if my mobo will still work with the Q8200??

780678 2009-06-09 03:46:00 SLI and Xfire are NOT viable upgrade paths IMHO. By the time you are ready to buy the 2nd card, new DX API's are released, and the card your after has been superceded, or are just a pain in the a$$ to keep running. Dont fall for the marketing hype.

Next generation cards are usually 80-90% of the power of previous generation SLI\Xfire cards, run better, support the newer DX API and also usually the around the same price as the 1st card you bought.....

Besides which, UNLESS you are running native Full HD on your LCD with AA\AF, most single cards will do the trick.

Edit: Cost for the motherboard in also more expensive

thnks SolMiester.

I am running native full HD on my LCD, but I don't know how to do the anti-aliasing stuff tho......

Apparently not, but then I read some users who use Q8200 with the chipset. You probably would need to flash the BIOS to the latest version though.

I personally would not get the Q8200. It's not a very good overclocker, not like the Q6600. The lowest quad core I'd go for is Q6600, and Q9400 is the next in line.

+1 to that, the Q6600 is great for overclocking.

But if you don't plan to OC, the Q8200 is quite good, runs cool and is slightly faster at stock speeds.

If you're going to game, go with a dual like the E8400. E0 stepping as mentioned earlier.

Within the next 12 months or so games will still use only 1-2 cores IMO...even if they start to use 4 your E8400 should easily cope with it.

Thnks heaps Blam. I am not planning to over clock or anything. I am not very good at stuff like that. So I guess the E8400 it is then......

do you think this case can swallow the 250GTX card I listed earlier in this thread? apparently this card is a huge beast...

I really the temperature probe it comes with. handy..

and by the way can you overclock the E8400??
powerover (12121)
780682 2009-06-09 06:14:00 Most probably. Most mid tower cases should fit GTX cards.

and the E8400 is definetly overclockable...mines running at 3.8ghz with a $40 cooler:D

780683 2009-06-09 06:18:00 shooooooooot......teach me how to do that stuff after my final exam.. :D

so I shall get:
the 250GTX card
the E8400
the NZXT case listed earlier......

ummmm....

I thought only the extreme series can be overclocked, all others have some part of it locked (front bus speed or whatever) so you can't over clock them...I'm wrong??
powerover (12121)
780684 2009-06-09 06:28:00 Yeah I guess....but I would invest in an after market cooler later on if you plan to OC.

Personally for around 200 I wouldn't get that case, I would go for the CM Storm.
