624039 2007-12-30 10:10:00 Have now got my Radar in - and I'm leaving it in.

Not that I intend to speed, far from it. but sometimes you can be caught off guard like going from a 100 to 70 area, or slowly creeping up to 60 in a 50 area on a main road.

I plan to use it in conjunction with staying within the speed limit, it also has a voice command that reminds me to put my seatbelt on, (plus when in beeps even if it's a false alert, it causes me to check my speed.)

You see my job involves a lot of driving and I can't afford the demerit points.
I only have 20 now, but that's how it begins.

I drove to New Plymouth tonight which is an hour away on the open road. I kept within the speed limit the whole way, normally Id sit at 110 to 115 max and I tell ya people were flying past me. I felt like I was driving like a granny.

I just told myself maybe they can afford to go that fast, I can not.

624040 2007-12-30 10:37:00 I have no demerit points left.:D

Spend a few hours on the road everyday for the last month.

Sit on 105 km/h all the way, I can guage my speed perfectly without needing a reminder to check my speedo.

When I speed, I know I'm speeding, I'd be a bit worried if I didn't.

Anyhow, No rush, Getting paid all the way.

I had none too, this is my first ticket in over 2 years, hopefully it will be the last.

I generally know what speed I'm doing but I am bad at taking a while to slow down when reaching a 70kl area. I usually wait till I get to the 50 area before I slow down instead of slowing down in the 70 area to begin with.
Habit's like that and not wearing a seatbelt in town can be hard to break.
Well for me anyway.

Yeah that's what I love about my job, driving it's great to be getting paid for it. I have a nice suntan on my right arm coming along.

I have driven in my last 2 jobs, 3 including this one. I use to be a truck driver, not a big truck, but a truck none the less, and I've never had a speeding ticket in any company vehical yet.

They have all been in my car. Lost my licence about 4 years ago for demerit points. I vow not to let it happen again.

Oh, I thought you meant that you had wiped the slate clean becauce you haven't had a ticket for 2 years .

Man that sucks . I avoided the guy that collects the licences like the plague . I had a different home address compared to where I lived, cause I was manufacturing and I didn't want anybody to know where I lived, especially the cops! So he found it very hard to get hold of me

Anyway he tracked me down, rang my parents I think, he called me on my cell phone . Because I was living a hour away form where he was based he made an appointment to meet me at a nearby location . I didn't turn up . Was too busy driving out of town on a mission . lol

Man was he pissed!!! I left him waiting and didn't show . So in the end I drove to his house at his requested or should I say demanded and I handed him my licence . It was quite demoralizing . He was a real w*nker about it too . I took my GF so she could drive me back, even thou she was only on her learners, and I didn’t technically have the right to be her teacher .

It sucked . But 3 months flew by . . . . .

Who am I kidding, it dragged on . Oh man did it drag on .
I drove a couple of times while disqualified, but it was quite scary . Paranoid as .
I brought a bike and rode most places nearby, or my GF or my mate chauffeured me around . Which was cool .

There are some good points to losing your licence .

You don't have to be the one to go and get the milk, or pick someone up, or be the sober driver and you know all those little running around jobs you hate, that was nice .

But the best thing about losing your licence is getting it back! Now that's great .

Yep - get used to it .
Drive at 50 in a 50k area and you will get tailgated .
Same goes if you're doing 100 in a 100k area .
(having said that, people who tailgate alot will tailgate anyone at any speed) .

The fact is most drivers don't look at the road when they are driving . They are focused only on the car in front and getting past it, regardless of the speed of that car . There is definitely an obsession with overtaking . Quite often, if I get overtaken, the car that has just passed me either doesn't pull away, or they turn off immediately, or I end up passing them at the next intersection . So, I ask, what was the point? It seems like they just had to be in front, no matter what . No time advantage gained whatsoever . The remarkable thing is the risks some people take just to gain those few extra metres .

624046 2007-12-31 00:05:00 get used to it allright .

you need to remember vast majority of drivers are middle aged and do all the nasty tricks they have been circulating around the pub/bar/bowling club/etc . all these bad habbits are very hard to get rid of, especially as the old style thing of "don't talk in public about it" means they never learn anything else .

thats why you still get people trying to "push along" the car in front, cut courners into oncomming traffic, the "duck and dive", blockading, the block and run, overtake at all costs, etc .

speeding is just the tip of the iceberg . at least its a start in the right direction . hopefully if they keep to the limit they will be more inclined to sit back in traffic rather than bully their way through .

624047 2008-01-02 23:57:00 The question to be asked of the Police is:-

How many cars fitted with radar detectors are involved in serious road accidents compared to the number of cars involved with things dangling from the rear vision mirror?

:illogical

I think it's a case that the cops hate to be beaten and have to have all advantages to take you down in their favour.
