623554 2007-12-22 07:05:00 Trying to decide what to get myself for Christmas, I was thinking of getting a 8gb Ipod touch, until a customer came into work today and ended up showing me his Zune, He raved about it.

So now I'm quite interested in a Zune, it seems a better buy, I like the large screen and video playback looked great plus audio reviews are great. All thou the Zune does have some con's like you can't use it as a storage device and limited video file support playback but at least you don't have to use third party software like itunes to put the music on it.

What I like about the Zune is price, $270 compared to the Ipod touch $475

I want to know whether you can hook either the Zune or Ipod up to a TV for video playback?

And can you download video's off you tube and convert them to play on the Zune.

So does anyone own a Zune or Ipod touch and which one would you recommend?

623555 2007-12-22 07:13:00 I own a iPod Touch 8gb - got 10% off back in September when I pre-ordered with Harvey Normans. Didn't come in till October though.

Best electronic purchase Ive made...ever.

Honestly, I love it. I know nothing about the Zune, and I don't intend to find out anything about it, but I could guarantee you would not be disappointed with the Touch. Especially once you jailbreak it - it pretty much makes it an iPhone + more (without the camera/phone though).

I'm sure, once jailbroken, it could do so much more than a Zune.

I know you can hook the Touch up to a tv, you just need a cable which I dunno what kind though.

And this isn't love on Apple, or hate on Microsoft, but I can tell you - the Touch is great. I already have 3 full length movies on it, 300, The Punisher and Dawn of the Dead, they all sound and look great. Not to mention great wi-fi, youtube, safari, and so much more.

623556 2007-12-22 07:15:00 If the Touch is like the Video Ipod, it should be able to connect to a tv.

With something like this (www.dse.co.nz)

Or this (www.dse.co.nz)

Looks like the original Zune, if you upgrade the firmware will play MP4 files.

The new Zunes, by the looks of it, are 4, 8, and 80 GB

And it looks like the orignal Zunes have smaller screens and are flash based, whereas the newer Zunes use hdd's, and have bigger screens.

623557 2007-12-22 07:36:00 Ipod touch does sound appealing, but does anyone have a Zune?

Also they talk about the Zune's backwards incompatibility with protected WMA-DRM9 and WMV files

So what do they mean by this exacty?

Will you be able to transfer all your existing MP3s on to your Zune?

623558 2007-12-22 07:41:00 Have a read of this (en.wikipedia.org)

I think MP3's will work ok, just as long as theyre not DRM.

623562 2007-12-22 20:48:00 It appears the iPod is a fashionable sort of gadget much desired by the glitterati, but regardless of performance the Zune is a sort of audio/visual Edsel that is not going to enhance your image on the street.
If you are more into a good value performer than a fashion statement, the iRiver is pretty highly regarded by users and reviewers.
