$150.00 fine & 75 demerits if you are caught with one.

I use to rely on my Radar detector, but these days I hardly plug it in, Don't speed as much as I use too I guess.

Multi Question Poll

Do you own a Radar Detector?

Do you think Radar Detectors should be banned?

623920 2007-12-22 06:35:00 If you don't speed then you have no worries - thats the only reason people use them. wainuitech (129)
623921 2007-12-22 06:42:00 I don't own one. I break the speed limit on the open road when I judge it appropriately 'safe'. I have been lucky that I haven't had a speeding ticket since I quit being a motorcycle courier back in 1990. I don't think detectors should be banned, because I don't believe the road safety focus should be concentrating on speed - I broke the speed limit daily when I was a courier (I had to to make anything like decent money) and I had five crashes in 7 years - all under 30km/h and no injuries - except to pride!! :D

Inappropriate speeding (near schools at 9:00AM or 3PM, 100 in a 50) is a big danger, but also things like no WOF (for SJ: Warrant of Fitness - a 12 or 6 monthly - depending on the age of the vehicle - mandatory vehicle road-worthiness check), especially bald tyres, drink driving and the like should be the police focus. But that isn't as easy to focus on as speed - it's real easy to see when a vehicle is travelling fast, less easy to spot from a distance whether that vehicle is road-worthy...

People will always speed, people will always die on the roads - no matter what the speed limit.

623922 2007-12-22 06:47:00 I don't think they should be banned, I mean government is taking stuff off us left right and centre, we need to keep what we can.

Before we all become like some controlled robots.

I too don't think speed kills, bad driving kills, and nothing will ever eliminate that.

623923 2007-12-22 06:48:00 well it has me beet!

why dont the appropriate government departments lay out "radar trippers" around the country mainly around accident spots there is no radar at all it just makes the alarm go off.
the alarm goes off, they slow down and so does all the other drivers around them.
then it gets the point the alarm is going off so many times they switch it off and they get a speeding fine.

623924 2007-12-22 06:52:00 Well, to me, everyone will just hide them now, they're audio, not visual. If you get pulled over, hide it in the glove box. --Wolf-- (128)
623925 2007-12-22 06:53:00 Post mounted Speed Cams will catch more speeders than any Radar will - Radar detectors wont tell you if a Cams Mounted, thats controlled by "trips" in the road, theres one down the road from my sisters place and she is always saying you can tell when the cams in, its like fireworks going off on saturdays nights sometimes with the flashes.

Its actually quite funny to watch, the locals soon know when the Cams mounted, going like a bat out of hell in a 50K area, till you get to the cam slow down - then they floor it again. In fact once we even had some kid put up a sign on the Cam post in BIG Orange letters saying " Speed Cam Working" - only lasted for 2 days

623928 2007-12-22 07:21:00 Some years ago my seat belt was frayed, I decided to get it rewoven, I rang up a business and they said it would take a week or so, I asked wouldnt you get a fine for not have a seat belt in the mean time, he said I never had any complaints yet .

So cleaver me thinking I had a IQ of 200 took the passenger one out and put it on the driver side, what a bone head I was what a horrible thing it was to use while the other one was away, they are not symmetrical .

But less then ten minutes of dropping the old seat belt off I got stopped by the police no fault of me, he was stopping everyone while he was not busy, it was just I was in the right place at the wrong time, anyway no action was taken, he told me by doing what I did I effectively canceled my warrant of fitness .

He pointed to a little black box that had wings on it, behind my mirror and said "is this a radar detector"?, I said "no it is a am/fm car radio aerial . it is useless sometimes, I brought while it was on sale" he say "amazing what junk you can get these days"
