623378	2007-12-21 03:47:00	How does one fix holes in gib? id say looking at them they be fist size???? and no it wasnt me... i dont know who did it. but do you just plaster something into the hole or do you cut jib to fit or what? maybe google will help. beetle:rolleyes:	beetle (243)
623379	2007-12-21 03:57:00	I just cut a couple of bits of Gib and stick it to the back of the hole, then another rough cut to fit the hole and stick onto the two bits behind, then just plaster fill around the edge of the patch. Might not be the right way but it has worked fine for the 3-4 holes i have fixed in my houses. A bit of sanding and re-plastering any rough bits It looks fine.	Bantu (52)
623380	2007-12-21 04:10:00	I assume the gib is on a wall. You have to put something in the hole to hold filling/gib stop compound. Cut a bit of wood an inch or two longer than the hole and narrow enough to fit through it, put builders adhesive on both ends of the wood, tie string around the middle of the wood, put it into the wall through the existing hole and pull the string so that it becomes glued to the inside surface of the wall. That mostly blocks the hole and provides support for your stopping compound. When the glue sets fill the hole with stopping compound and when that is set sand it flat and you are good to go. Also make sure the gap between the bits of plasterboard are less than 5mm, as naything over and the plaster may crack when it drys out. Also unless you have some spare bits floating around, you usually have to buy a whole big piece of gib board, which is a hassle.	robbyp (2751)

I have also used a plaster bandage that you dip in water then place across the hole, wait to dry then skim coat, sand and paint. But only use this method for smaller holes You can get the plaster bandage in most DIY shops. I think I got mine in Placemakers.	beama (111)

One hole can be fixed in one way or another. If there are multiple holes I would replace the whole Gib board. If there are fist sized holes everywhere over multiple Gib boards I would move out. But then you mention you do not know who did it. I do not think it was you. Did you move into a new place? Sorry to have to ask that Beetle.	Sweep (90)

623386	2007-12-21 08:14:00	Bantu's method is good, for plastering, try Polyfilla. (In spite of the name, don't try it on scrawny parrots.) Gib scraps come as a by-product at demolition firms. Anybody know anyone in that trade in Wanganui? ;)	R2x1 (4628)

How do you have one hole in several rooms? I can see how it may be two rooms. In the event this is one hole (interior) then this would be easy to fix. Is this one hole through two Gibs from one room to another? Once again asking a dopey question if you do not mind. Easier that fixing Gib on exterior in my opinion.	Sweep (90)
