781262 2009-06-11 01:08:00 I am off to Blenheim to upgrade my mum's computer...

it currently has a 20GB disk that is almost full.
my plan is to put in a 80GB i have in my junk pile.(was in use two weeks ago)

question is what free software is out there to do a full disk clone and re-size the partition at the same time.

If i remember rightly "ghost" was the tool of choice a few years ago...
I don't want to pay for software if i can help it.

what free options are there...

both IDE disk's.
windows XP, SP3
older duron system.
256MB of RAM, upgrading to 1GB.

781263 2009-06-11 01:14:00 As long as one of the drives is a Seagate - download and run DiscWizard (www.seagate.com) - make a bootable CD, its basically the Acronic True Image. wainuitech (129)

781265 2009-06-11 02:19:00 Even if one of the drives isn't Seagate/Maxtor use the software anyway.

When you create a boot disc/CD/USB key and boot off it you will get an error saying that you need at least one Seagate or Maxtor drive.

Before you click OK press and hold ALT then press T then O ("Tech Override") then click OK and the software will run

781268 2009-06-11 11:08:00 The XP Disc Management Tool (Start>Control Panel>Admin Tools>Computer Management>Disc Management) can be used to Format, Initialise then create a New Partition as "Primary" as NTFS.

The Seagate created image can then go in this Partition. After that is done the remainder of the Drive can then be Initialised, and another Partition created as Primary, etc.
