780844 2009-06-09 06:37:00 hi there, i been trying to suss out if my a8n-vm motherboard will be a compatible with a dual core athlon. it is socket 939 from what i gather. I already have an athlon64 3200 in there.

or if it can't whats the fastest chip that will run in there?

oh also im not entirely sure if its just the a8n-vm or the a8n-vm csm. how can i tell? I have a firewire port on the front of my comp but no devices or ways to tell if its working?

Mobo running nforce chipset

cheers

780846 2009-06-09 07:21:00 I always thought the dual core athlons started at socket am2? hueybot3000 (3646)
780847 2009-06-09 08:18:00 Unless you've connected the onboard firewire to the front of the case, it wont work. According to the CPU support for the CSM, it doesnt say anything about AM2, or dual core just socket 939.

This is what the CSM supports (support.asus.com)

780848 2009-06-09 09:56:00 well going by what the csm supports, and i found in the same site, just the a8n-vm it shows it supports dual core 939. hmmm

Also im not 100% sure if my mobo is CSM or not. how can i check?

780849 2009-06-09 10:13:00 Read the manual, if it came with one. Or run system information. Or get pcwizard then run it. Or open the case, it'll have the model etched on it. Speedy Gonzales (78)
