625479 2007-12-28 20:37:00 Does anyone know of a site for downloads of MP3s that is a pay-as-you-go and not requiring a monthly fee and/or contract?

I tried emusic . com and found their us rules stiff and I could not see what music they actually offered unless I committed to their service .

I don't like certain types of music, and don't care for up-and-coming artists either . . I am a little more staid in my choices although I like an occasional performance by the Black-Eyed Peas . . . don't laugh .

The MP3 format without DRMs and such is a good thing that emusic offers, but the rest of the package isn't worth the monthly fee whether you download any music of not .

625480 2007-12-28 21:01:00 DSE operate their own music store (www.ripit.co.nz), you can get prepaid cards from any of their branches.

Only downside is you can only use IE to view the store.

625482 2007-12-28 21:50:00 Have you tried the Itunes store? , i know people dislike it but it really does have alot of music. A small selection of their music is now DRM free as well, so it will pay to check it out. DRM'ed songs i think are 99 cents (USD) while the non DRM'd ones are a bit more expensive - with no monthly fee. noone (22)

625484 2007-12-28 23:56:00 Hi SJ
You could have a look at Amazon.com. I am not sure of their terms and conditions because I scouted around a bit and did not see anything specific. However I have bought quite a few albums from them and no limits etc -- just pay as you go for those.

Also, you will not be constrained by the comment on their site (that I have just noticed !)

Please note: Amazon MP3 is currently limited to US customers.
Suggest you check out further.
Misty :D

(I have made a separate apology to Foxy on another thread as Amazon will not suit her after all).

Like noone mentioned, NZ-based websites aren't the best option for SJ as he lives in the US.

I was gonna mention rutunes.com (www.rutunes.com/) which lists most of the better AllOfMP3 replacements but I'm sure you you realise the questionable legality of such sites. I set up an account at MP3Sugar (http:) a while ago because they had an album I was keen on but hard to find and the initial base deposit ($NZ40 I think) was used up by me without any hassle. All your basic DRM-free MP3s from these services of course.

Is emusic subscription based?

Yep.

Have you already done the 50 free downloads SJ? Just sign-up and give it a spin, because like they say "you can cancel anytime". You can also browse eMusic's catalogue freely (www.emusic.com) before registering.
