623868 2007-12-23 09:18:00 I'm just thinking, I know that with modems - ADSL and 56k, they need to have a telepermit before they can be properly used on the TC network in NZ.

But what about Network cards? I know they are not connected to the phone lines.

623870 2007-12-23 09:37:00 Perhaps officially they do, but unofficially, who cares? These days Telecom does not seem to care and it is understandable. They are aware that anyone is able to connect just about anything to their network without their knowledge, so unless it causes a problem for their network they are no too concerned.

You will notice that if you report a fault they will ask you to remove everything from any jack points and if they still find a fault they will send a faultman. No fault found, your problem as it is most probably in the equipment you just unplugged. Not their problem - they don't care.

Besides, a Telepermit is not much more than a piece of paper.

So go ahead - connect what you will.

I worked in Telecom Fault Service for 21 years so I have a bit of an idea.

623872 2007-12-24 07:35:00 They don't need a telepermit. Not in any way, shape, or form, unless they are directly connected to the Telecom POTS network. Erayd (23)
623873 2007-12-24 07:46:00 Due to a tea break, it is now the Telecom POS network. R2x1 (4628)

What a load of crap the network card has absolutely nothing to do with telecom only the modems because they are the ones connecting to their network.
