781408 2009-06-11 06:25:00 Hi everyone,

I currently have a Vista/Ubuntu 8.04 Dual Boot rig, and occasionally I might pop a visit in Ubuntu.

Everything's fine with Ubuntu, except that the internet is slow. Although I'm on dial up, I can only get about 1KB/s download:badpc:, while I can get up to 4.5 KB/s on Vista.

Cause: I have installed a Conexant driver on Ubuntu from linmodems.org (I think?), and the license for free version clearly says that the speed will be capped to 14400bps.

Question: can I get some other free alternatives on my modem driver so it will be running at least a bit faster? 14400 is sooooo intolerable, as everyone may know.

Thanks.

781409 2009-06-11 06:43:00 14400 sounds like the fax side of it if its a faxmodem. Since I doubt you'll get 14.4 when its connected to an ISP using dialup. Speedy Gonzales (78)
781410 2009-06-11 06:56:00 Nah. The driver disables fax ability AND caps the speed to 14400 bps.

Tried searching on google, but one came up as piratebay.org... Not an option, right?:ban

I'm just worried at the slow speed:(.
