625245 2007-12-28 20:04:00 Auckland is the best gathering point (1 million population),

How does population make it the best place? I would think a more central location would be better - less distance for those at each end to travel.

I think everyone should meet down here anyway.

625246 2007-12-28 22:53:00 Obvious answer seems to be set a date and time with venues up and down the country - somewhere like Starbucks as they have telecom wireless. Then get various people to bring laptops with software such as Skype installed and video conference it all. Those who can't make it can then hook in from home, work, the boat etc if they want.

Mind you, the arguments will then decend to Skype versus alternatives and whether it is Telecom wireless or alternatives...

As in, it also proportionally (more or less) represents where most PF1 members are located.

As for the idea of a central location... have you noticed that there are plenty of LUGs (Linux User Groups) around in New Zealand, rather than only one? Most of us do not have the liberty to travel long distances due to various reasons.

If Auckland meetup does occur and is a success, perhaps PF1ers from other parts of NZ can organise one in their respective region as well?

Once again, I am not trying to discriminate those leaving outside of Auckland.

Cheers :)

625248 2007-12-29 00:27:00 youre going to shoot yourself in the foot James........ shush when the going is good.

let the groupd decide if and where not just because you think its proportionaly better.........

if we had two groups, one would think middle of north island and middle of south island........... but will that happen?

the logistic of this makes it too hard.

Let Jamuz invite Winmacguy. They may have a conversation about a mac o/s version vs any version of linux.

625251 2007-12-29 01:59:00 Well, I would advise a variety of meeting places, all of them dispensing ale by a quirk of fate. Sort of a movable feast, there is a fair sort of precedent here. Pizza is probably essential, even if only in small doses. R2x1 (4628)

That Poll is 3 years old!
Plus Taranaki isn't even included in the poll- Well not unless you choose Other NZ and I think Taranaki is big enough to have it's own classification .

625253 2007-12-29 02:41:00 Why don't youse guys have your suds, chin and chow in San Jacinto?

It'll be good to get off that island for a change and the local economy here would appreciate it .

Our police are much more forgiving about alcohol on the beaches . We don't have any beaches here in the middle of the high desert .

Maybe I should rephrase that . . . we got LOTS O' BEACH . . . just no water lapping on it .

The cops are more than happy to let you drink pretty much anything you want if you share it with them . :D

Maybe you can charter a bus to get here . They have restrooms in them now and the seats are very comfortable .

625254 2007-12-29 02:45:00 I think R2 is saying,it may be best to meet his place where Pizza and ale will be provided.

What a good sport he has turned out to be.
