If you purchased it from an authorised reseller it may have just slipped through the gaps - you should contact Sony NZ direct and they'll be able to 'fix' it for you.I have 2 or 3 Sony dvd recorders/players ranging from budget to not-so-budget and non of them were "multi-zoned" when purchased.
