A famous meal I once had at a five star hotel restaurant was braised kudu with baked pears - it was utterly sublime. And my world famous pork spare ribs recipe has an essential plum based sauce. And, How does that relate to what I wrote? Which part of apple sauce is actually baked pears? ..........Plum sauce?, Fantastic, what does that have to do with people spending 30 years serving up lamb once a week with revolting mint jelly? As for mince... where the heck would we be without chilli con carne, spaghetti bollognaise, mousakka, or lasagna if it weren't for minced beef and/or lamb. Even hamburgers and Swedish meatballs are made with mince!! Eating real meat? |

2008-01-11 23:39:00 | Seems low expectatiuons are easily filled. While that is quite a distance from how I would want heaven to be, Its a trillion miles away from a good plate of food.

2008-01-12 03:06:00 | Many moons ago it was possible to walk into the ChCh Railway Station and get a meal for $2.00 which consisted of 2 pieces of buttered toast on a plate with meat that had been simmering all day in a crockpot like container. The meat was spooned over the toast and was juicy and full of flavour and not at all tough full of big chunks of delicious pieces, mmmmmm. The old ladies there sure knew how to flavour that meat. One of the best meals I have ever had bar none, including all the meals I have had from fancy over priced establishments around town, and I am talking about the best places in town, I have a rich cousin who comes over from Germany and takes the family out for a $1000 meal every now and again, that includes wine. I have eaten meals in good hotels in many parts of the world and I know what good food is. Modern fancy pants food is not where it is at. Omelettes are another of my favourite dishes it takes a master chef to make a good one, technique is all.

2008-01-12 03:33:00 | Modern fancy pants food is not where it is at. In Singapore you can get a delicious meal still for $5 maximum at lots of places. However that is only from our experience. Our son tells us that is expensive - because in Malaysia you can get a great meal for $3. :illogical Misty

2008-01-12 04:11:00 | Garlic in lemon chicken is a fave in my house! I love garlic in most things but it gives me a pain in chest so have to be careful not to have too much or too often . I ask my internal medicine doctor today about your problem (I had an appointment there today anyway . . . and I just asked) . . . it's just the raw garlic problem according to him . People use garlic for all sorts of home remedies, and raw garlic is very stressful to the digestive system . He suggests (as do I) that you cook your garlic until it's soft and sweet . I personally don't eat raw garlic . . I have a bad case of GERD . . and it would kill me . . . but cooked it is fine . . and there seems to be no real limit to the amount I can eat that way . Maybe people here have misunderstood that I don't actually eat raw garlic .
