627383 2008-01-06 00:08:00 Just checked the bills. It looks like we use a cylinder every two months, almost to the day. Weird.

Current price $88.20.

I think they know where you live and come by and open the valve to empty the tanks on ya.

"They" do things like that.

Thanks John. That gives a good benchmark for me to guess that we would use 1 cylinder a month, and even then that's still a saving of about $20/month (our power bill averages $170/month).

Even more likely is that the valve indicator on the cylinder (that flicks to red to show it is empty) was made by the same company that makes those indicators that tell you your printer cartridge is empty, even though it is still 20% full . . .

I don't think we are particularly careful about our use of gas either, somebody. We had to scrimp and save through all our early years of marriage, so we are a bit loose now that we can afford to have lashings of hot water. You know, leaving the tap running, using the hot tap when cold will do etc etc... I think if you didn't have a teenage girl or a rugby team in the house you could do better than us on gas consumption... And of course we live in ChCh, so in the winter the gas is probably roaring away trying to get the cold artesian water up to the required temp. If you are somewhere warmer, you may not need so much gas.
