626816 2008-01-03 04:02:00 With 100 crims watching 1 TV, I wonder who decides which chanell to watch.
Probably the ensueing brawl would be more interesting to watch than TV.

Do they have sky? Probably!

626817 2008-01-03 04:31:00 And they wonder why people reoffend when they get of prison.
Life is better in there for most of them that's why!
Three meals a day, a bed, LCD TVs & game consoles!

626818 2008-01-03 05:20:00 the prisoners are in the direct care of the government, and they have a responsibility to ensure the prisoners are healthy. The prisoners could probably eat just as good on the outside if they didn't buy alcohol or drugs Greven (91)

626822 2008-01-03 09:02:00 :D hehe its my young guy language

Strange that. I was once a young fellow. Very young. But even before I reached double figures I did at least know how to spell and took pride in it.
When I didn't know how to spell something I used the dictionary - a lot - and took pride in my efforts.
Try harder - garbage is garbage no matter what excuses are made.

626823 2008-01-03 10:05:00 Prison Service bosses said yesterday the LCD televisions required fewer wall mountings, which meant their were fewer items available for inmates to use to harm the screens, other inmates or themselves .

Spin doctors can turn anything around to justify anything, and what the journalist has reported isn't necessarily correct, and it doesn't really make much sense . People shouldn’t believe everything they read in the papers .

Fewer wall mountings . . . fewer items available for inmates to use to harm the screens . . .

Well they are going to end up with a lot of expensive damaged screens then, because LCD screens are very fragile, and if someone kicks it, it is pretty much stuffed forever . LCDs are definitely not what they should have purchased if they have lots of fights near the tv . CRTs are far more resilient .

When I went to boarding school, we had 100 kids watching a single 21 inch CRT on movie night, and there was nothing wrong with that, and I am sure an LCD tv would have got damaged their too . We didn’t have our own TVs and could only watch TV on special occasions .

These criminals get everything given to them and they know how to work the system to get what they want . This includes premium level health care . They also get free tattoo removal, and free education, all paid for by the tax payer, not to mention free accommodation and meals . This can be a good thing for those that learn from their mistakes, but many reoffend and there is no real rehabilitation program in the prisons .

Does having them rot in a stone cellar make us better?
Or would that make us as bad as some of them .

No one has said that that is how they should be treated, however there needs to be a certain level unpleasantness and hard work to the experience . They are in prison, not a holiday camp . What’s wrong with giving them a book to read, instead of TV, many would find it far more rewarding, especially those who would struggle to read .
The government are also required to make sure that criminals are not injured or abused while under their care, however I don't think they are doing enough to prevent this, based on all the reports about abuse in the prison .

626824 2008-01-03 10:38:00 Isn't the point of Prison to pay for your crimes.A bit more to it than just punishment. It's also supposed to be a deterrant, and keep society protected while the convicted supposedly learn the error of their ways. Greg (193)
626825 2008-01-03 10:41:00 @Thomas01, one of the things that helped me to understand why young people are using TXT in the way that they do is the realization that when you text there is a limitation on the number of characters in a message (SMS {simple message service} limit per message, I believe is 160) so if the "words" are reduced, as you see, but remain intelligible then that is optimum for getting the most information across in the least amount of characters/message without having to start a new message to complete the information transfer.

HTH. (hope this helps)
