628951 2008-01-10 01:06:00 I'm about to move to another house . I've always been with Telecom for business reasons but should consider the alternatives . I'm not looking for the cheapest but rather the best combination .

I notice Pctek used World Exchange but changed to Orcon, in Gore .

What do you suggest? Generally I just use forums and browse in the evenings but there have been times I'd like to download a game or video file but didn't because it would blow my current monthly limit of 5GB .

I notice Telecom don't say much about download speed on their site!

628952 2008-01-10 01:11:00 Stay away from Telecom and Slingsh(i)t.Telstra and Orcon are the ones to go for with phone/ADSL combos. wratterus (105)

No, no, no .

My broadband is still with Xnet in Gore . My tolls are with Xnet in Gore .
My landline is with Orcon in Gore because Xnet doesn't have one . Only VOIP, which wouldn't work here .

And remember its Business, not residential, its tricky finding one that allows flat rate calling - or allows you to shift it to someone else and keep the landline .

Thats why .

Did you sell your gorgeous house Winston??!!!

Orcon is a good residential combo if you want net, landline and tolls in one . And they have good service .

Otherwise Xnet .

They do, but you have to do a bit of digging ;), plus they only say:

The day to day speed of your broadband will vary depending on a number of factors

That’s what said here: www.telecom.co.nz

When you do a compare of plans.

But if you do a bit of digging the speeds are still listed here:

jetstream.xtra.co.nz (although I think that page is for business)

Xnet (www.xnet.co.nz/) Seems to be a poplar ISP at the moment.

To be fair, other than their slow speeds, Woosh offers pretty good service all around. The slow speeds are a big downer though so if you want to download large files, stay away.

Thanks but if I went to Woosh, Pctek would come and hex my system and I'd never hear the end of it!! :groan:

Their VOIP wasn't very good either last time I tested it, and although I haven't had to call their helpdesk for a long time, I regularly hear stories from others as to how bad they are.
