628812 2008-01-09 10:48:00 After looking through the shops today I have decided the price point for getting a new TV has finally arrived. So I have a few questions.
1) what models recommended, only really concerned about current models
2)Any sales man here that would like to recommend a model
3) When watching standard def signal, do these panels down scale to the correct resolution? And is this the reason some look so blotchy watching standard Def?
4) I understand you can't hook a PC up to a plasma? is this true.
5)Any particular brands to stay away from.

628813 2008-01-09 11:06:00 What size screen are you looking at?
Anything up to 42" then LCD is the way to go. (The only way I think, as Plasmas don't come in anything less than 42")
46" & 47" is trickier as LCD is catching up to Plasma all the time.
Anything bigger and Plasma gives a better picture.

I have a couple of friends who repair TVs (CRT & flat screens) and they both say that Philips have the highest rate of failure so I would stay away from them.

You can absolutely connect a PC to a Plasma. From memory I don't think I have seen a Plasma that couldn't have a PC connected to it.

32 or 37. Don't really have the space for anything bigger. Kind of cuts plasma out of the equation

628817 2008-01-09 18:59:00 Our day for finally buying a new TV has arrived too.
We've had a Panasonic for about 15 years now; it's given us excellent service.
About a month ago we couldn't get a picture; got it fixed and it packed up again.
So we decided we should bite the bullet and get a new one.

We're currently waiting on a 37" plasma (Panasonic). But he's bringing out an LCD, this afternoon, for us to try.

What's been said about anything less than 42" for a Plasma, not being as worthwhile as an LCD, has got me thinking:confused:

I can actually hardly wait to see the difference the new TV makes to our videos.

628820 2008-01-09 20:24:00 Having just been through this process, I would not go for anything other than a mid range or up Sony Bravia or Samsung, or if you're looking to spend a bit more, a high end one of either, or a high end panasonic.

Of course, don't trust any LCD (in that size range) below about $1800, anything cheaper you will regret.

All you will get for answers is opinions . . . . 50:50,in the end its up to you

Just feel another 12 months is worth the wait .

Only junk, mostly,so will make do with my 25"CRT .
