783104 2009-06-18 00:00:00 I have an ASUS N50Vc which has a numeric keypad built-in to the keyboard. My problem is that the Home, Delete and Backspace keys surround the NumLock key and I am forever accidentally switching it off. :badpc:

Does anyone know of a software solution which would enable it to be switched on and effectively locked, so my fat fingers don't accidentally switch it off?

783106 2009-06-18 00:33:00 Thanks blam - I don't want to remap it (I use most of the keys on the keyboard - fairly regularly - for the purpose nature intended), I just want to lock the NumLock key on (short of removing the key and taking the microswitch out)... johcar (6283)
783107 2009-06-18 00:40:00 Hi johcar. If you mean effectively locked as in effectively locked then a dribble of superglue around the close-fitting key locks it good. Sounds over the top but I access email through Mailwasher. My wife regularly use to by-pass Mailwasher and press the email key directly - until it somehow became inoperable. Depends on what you mean by effectively locked. If that is too heavy, you can set the alarm to beep any time you do accidentally touch the key. Scouse (83)
783108 2009-06-18 01:11:00 OK Johcar, gotcha:)

To kill the capslock key copy and paste the code below into notepad and save with a .reg extension then double click it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Keyboard Layout]
"Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,3a, 00,00,00,00,00

Or, if you want to change the Capslock to a shift key:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Keyboard Layout]
"Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,2a,00,3a, 00,00,00,00,00

And to set it all back to defaults:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Keyboard Layout]
"Scancode Map"=-

Finger-Slimming Tips

Try keeping your daily sodium intake at or below 2,300 milligrams (about the equivalent of one teaspoon of salt) for one month.
Steer clear of dark polishes and paint your nails a nude shade or a light pink to make your fingers look longer.
Growing your nails a smidge past your fingertips may also help. Just keep them filed and rounded to prevent chipping.

783111 2009-06-18 11:23:00 Thanks for all the suggestions - I will try the one zqwerty suggests and see how I get on... (it's certainly a little less permanent than Scouse's idea of using superglue! :)) johcar (6283)
