628852 2008-02-05 03:44:00 All NZ TV channels are broadcast in the normal format can't remember the ratio. All Sky channels except the movie channels are broadcast in the normal format. I got Sky Digital installed on Saturday as well, just got the ordinary decoder, might get Mysky later on. I'm watching everything via the Sky decoder. Zippity are you viewing on a wide screen TV???
:)

628853 2008-02-05 04:10:00 Freeview is broadcast in widescreen, and I thought Sky was too. Maybe you need to check your sky box settings. wotz (335)
628854 2008-02-05 04:54:00 Bought same one Boxing Day. Amazing difference watching videos but TV is not that much difference. Wall mounted it to avoid little hand prints.

Had to say I felt a little conned. I had originally had my eye on Samsung but in the store side by side the Sony had a noticeable colour difference, more brighter. Sony also had Twin picture which is more of a novelty, which has worn off already. When I was going through the settings I noticed that the Sony 'colour' settings were cranked right up to 100% :stare: I can only guess that all Sony's are set that high so they look better on display. Still happy with purchase though.

I noticed that when looking, after asking for the remotes and having a muck around, choose the samsung, cheaper, better specs.

Trev, Any light leaking on the sides of the screen (you'll notice this watching a cinematic widescreen movie), and have you plugged it into a PC?

I don't get the max resolution, which is 1366 x 768, yet it supports full HD. ??

628856 2008-02-05 05:39:00 No light leaking around the ends in widescreen as they are sealed, not like a friend of mine who won a Philips 32" widescreen LCD which has semi clear plastic ends which is like having a light turned on in a darkened room.
There are 2 articles here http://www.easternhifi.co.nz/ that can answer your last question better than I can, Plasma vs LCD and Choosing a TV. No I have not plug a computer into it and probibly won't at the moment as they are in two differant rooms and to much hassle to do so.

Mrs T insisted on buying a 32" Bravia for Xmas 2006 just before the prices dropped, but it is damned good . The Pix quality has to be set to your personal preferences though, you wouldn't buy a Hi Fi and leave the volume and other controls where the shop had set them!

IIRC Sony gives a choice of three colour profiles, Vivid being the default that Sony (and the shops) use . To get a decent picture you have to set it up to suit yourself .

Go to the set-up menu, select Custom then adjust the Picture (contrast) to 90, Brightness to 64, Colour to 40, Sharpness to 15, Backlight to 5 (makes it last longer too) and Colour Temperature to neutral . This will give you a good starting point to tweak your personal preferences .

These particular settings are for a Sony Bravia of course, but most LCDs worth buying will have a similar range of customisation settings available .

Cheers

Yes, I am viewing on a Sony Bravia 40" X Series through a Sky decoder :)

My understanding is that TVOne, TV2 and TV3 are all broadcasting in wide screen format where possible.

MySky is just an additional waste of money at this stage.

For further wide screen details, I suggest that you take a look at www.geekzone.co.nz

actually no. more and more programs are either in widescreen or widescreen cut to fit normal screen. the reason being is a lot of programs and movies are only being made in widescreen now. they are sold in widescreen format only, no normal screen version along side them, so broadcasters are forced to show them in widescreen or cut the image to fit. pain in the @#$% when the scores are cut off the edge of the screen!
