You are too new here, you have to have a join date before Dec 2004 to understand the fun we used to have on this forum before it was sanitized.

If internet cafes are too dear then maybe travellers will use their cellphones and other devices to connect to the internet !
One million users can't be wrong (even if they're Aussies !!!)

628642 2008-01-13 23:03:00 I just spend 2½ weeks travelling Christchurch, across to the West coast, Wanaka, Queenstown, Te-Anau, Cromwell, Tekapo . Great Trip, Great Weather .

I had a laptop with me and was more relying on Wireless than Internet Cafe's, but did see a lot of them around . When ever I looked in they were always busy .

The best one I saw had to be Twizel . Washing Machines, Showers, Lockers, Internet, Cafe, Photos to CD, all things the person on the move on a budget might want I thought it catered very well indeed .

HQWiFi was a good wife in Queenstown and Wanaka, but some of the other places i stayed offered some weird and wonderful WiFi mainly slow from any part of the world . Our Cromwell motel had a huge sign offering Broadband, that turned out to be an ISP Based in Texas and all pricing was in US$ which did not impress me . WiFI was costing me about an average of NZ$6 per hour and sometimes the cards with Login/Password to access it did not allow for logoff and log back on so you lost what you had left .

I had a Vodafone GRPS card and struck a couple of places that had no reception and not as cheap as the WiFi I was getting .

All in all good holiday but maybe I should have just relied on Internet Cafe's instead of hauling the laptop around .

628644 2008-01-18 06:27:00 Just FYI.

I was in a comp shop recently and they had a couple net computers. I asked about the deal and they said $1 for 5-10 mins or $8 an hour. The reasoning was that most peeps want to check their emails maybe send one or two this fits into the first pricing the $8 an hour was to deter young people/kids from hanging out on bebo and sneaking in a bit of porn, whatever - not the target audience and anyway the two-net-comp operation was run as more of a service and promo thing than a money spinner. As for the question of "How do net cafes make a living" well I have seen a lot close down. Now with PDAs maybe they better start thinking of some other living.:2cents:
