628626 2008-01-11 20:06:00 An Internet Cafe - the way to lose money fast, some people that I knew lost much money trying this enterprise in ChCh 6 years ago. There are many factors to take into account not the least - positioning - location, location, location. In the early days of molten media, when it was still in Litchfield Street, just as the geeks thankfully took it over from the useless rent-a-protest anarchists i was involved in the internet cafe we had set up there. It was the only part of Molten Media at the time that actually sustained itself financially, in fact, financially, it held the ship loosely together......

I think now they only work as either a sideline, something in the corner of a shop, or right in the thick of it, like the inner city ones. They definately don't work as a standalone business in hick towns!

628627 2008-01-11 22:53:00 Green Room Café, Main St, Gore $9 an hour

Gore Library, Norfolk St $8 an hour

The cafe isn't an internet cafe. Its a coffee shop that has a few computers out back. So its not their main income.

And then theres the library - owned by the council. Our rates aren't cheap. We don't get much for it either.

And $9000 a week?! I'd love to take $9000 a month!!!!

Have as word with your grinning mayor, see what he can do to reduce charges.
That is if you can stop him concreting something.

Won't go into the grip bit Saf.
As a chap whose middle name is reason,I assumed and I am sure PC will tell us,things are much the same in Inver, that being the case she would need to get in touch with smiler.
Now Saf,this is not simple stuff like Outlook Express,so don't attempt to fully understand.

628634 2008-01-12 05:02:00 It's probably due to population size. Auckland = 2 million was it? Gore? I'm not sure, but certainly not anywhere near that.HIghly unlikely. If anything, Queenstown should be charging higher prices being a tourist town.

Get a grip man.pctek lives in Wyndham, approx halfway between Gore and Invercargill. Closer to Gore actually

pctek - Maybe you should consider throwing together a few PC's and do your own small cafe, cut the others prices :)

Yep . Its not part of Gore, nor is it part of Invercargill, we come under Southland District Council .

Nope the idea of an intenet cafe doesn't appeal at all .

Tourists might be one thing but most cafes I've been in are full of boys viewing porn . I clean out enough spyware all week without adding to the work . . . . . . . . . . . .
