629205 2008-01-11 00:09:00 And they are INDIAN not Chinese.

OK I see my joke was too esoteric for you. :groan:

Everyone has had their eyes on China, and here comes the sleeping giant - INDIA - with a car that should shake up a few million Chinese businessmen. Got it?

The next country that will surprise the world will be Brazil. Russia has already done so, for rather dubious reasons. I am talking of big emerging economies, not nutjob oil spots like Iran.

Back to misplaced humour: bob_doe_nz, I don't get it.

629207 2008-01-11 01:25:00 It doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere in the press releases, but what age group is it intended for? R2x1 (4628)

The car is designed for families in India who presently cram everyone on a motorbike. It will take a couple of years or more for Tata Motors to get production up so that they will be readily available.

Can you imagine places like China and India with most of the motorcycles that jam the roads now, being replaced by cars? The mind boggles. Unless they revamp the city road system its going to make AKL traffic look moderate.

629209 2008-01-11 03:50:00 I just came back from 2 months in India and it already makes Auckland traffic look moderate and law-abiding. beeswax34 (63)
629210 2008-01-11 07:19:00 I prefer the Tata CityCats - powered by compressed air, does 200km on one "fill" of air. Top speed 110km/hr. Costs about $3/fill, and no emissions whatsoever.

Thanks for that. Good reading here:

629211 2008-01-11 07:29:00 Handy for the parking enforcers, they will be able to use vacuum cleaners instead of tow trucks.

629212 2008-01-11 09:03:00 I think I would probably be able to get half of my weekly grocery shopping in that thing. I wonder if they can tow baby trailers?
Babies not allowed in trailers in India.

629213 2008-01-11 12:25:00 Have a think what millions of newly-motorised Indians and others would do for the price of oil.

You'd think that the Indians would not repeat the mistake of others and get roped into oil dependence. And before you say "biofuels", consider also the effect on the price of food.
