629167 2008-01-11 04:56:00 I don't think Orcon's free web hosting was intended for businesses and anyone who used it for that purpose and had business cards printed took a bit of a risk.

I think it was for both business and personal hosting. I know of quite a few businesses that currently use it, and I don't think business use was ever prohibited.

Anyone in business who does not use a domain name that is registered to them have only themselves to blame if it changes and they have to reprint all their business cards.

629169 2008-01-11 05:17:00 Money

There are places that do reliable hosting for about $8. Orcons free hosting isn't all that reliable, as I recall the server went down for days if not weeks before it was put back online.

629170 2008-01-11 09:13:00 If they pop advertising .. what don't I use any other which may provide more MBs. I think they allow 10MB right ... Oh .. maybe I can get it off Xnet .. that is if they are advertising free. I been with Xnet for a year but never used it cos since Orcon was free at the time so why change .. Nomad (952)
629171 2008-01-11 21:04:00 I wonder if Orcon will now allow websites to be created with all email accounts? A couple of years ago new accounts could no longer create websites with Orcon's explanation being that they were in the midst of changes. Other services available with the free email addresses were also removed not long ago. Hopefully all functions will be returned when the changeover occurs. FoxyMX (5)

I don't know, I thought they had removed the ability to create free hosting accounts anyway. The ads on the page will kill it, as will the change in url, as you can get free hosting with ads anywhere.

629173 2008-01-12 04:31:00 I think when they had it .. it was NZ email address only.
You also had to put your postal address I think.

Then overtime I think they said no more free accounts .. but those who already had it .. can keep it.

Now I guess they are revamping it again ..

629174 2008-01-13 21:22:00 Well I'm surprised they still provide the service. It's been in the shadows for some time.
Although I've had freehost space with Orcon for a few years now, I don't know what the restrictions are. Does the 10mb limit still exist?
I'd never rely on the free hosting but instead have server space in Melbourne, which proves to be excellent in both uptime, latency and well... I have it for free but I can thank family for that.

629175 2008-01-15 00:38:00 Yeah .. I think its still 10MB.
I may end up putting a redirection on the Orcon's freesite to my Xnet website.
