Heres a PDF if your really curious^^

And I found this reply to the similar question on another forum:

That's an overscan issue. Many TV's have an adjustment for that.

Enable Overscan.

I will have a look at that possibility on the TV. Thanks for the reference. I had an idea some of the answers would be available on Google but didn't know the appropriate question to ask.

627740 2008-01-07 06:21:00 What sort of cables are you using? Not a solution, merely a question
The cables that came with the TV and the Recorder. As playback is ok on every other channel it will have nothing to do with the type of cable. Cheers.

627741 2008-01-07 11:01:00 I have a 4x3 TV with the Sky box set to letterbox and you can see these dots when changing channels on the Sky movies channels as well. Its signaling info. Your LCD should have settngs in the engineers menus to adjust it apsattv (7406)

I had another look, and the 'dots' I mentioned are really 'dashes'. I presume this is the same problem or does that suggest something else?.
I should have paid more attention to what I am seeing and posted accordingly.

627743 2008-01-08 04:08:00 Yes dashes at the top of the frame bar its just signalling info. Normally its hidden by the overscan. A techy should be able to access a service menu and adjust it. apsattv (7406)

627745 2008-01-08 08:18:00 Not unless you have the service manual for that lcd tv. Ask the manufacturer if this is a known issue. apsattv (7406)

Once again many thanks for your help. Cheers.
