783680 2009-06-19 12:13:00 Are you using Vista (support.microsoft.com). If you are, is SP1 or 2 installed? Speedy Gonzales (78)
783681 2009-06-19 12:38:00 I am running vista and I don't think I have SP1 or SP2 installed. I have the automatic update going and I thought it will download it itself, apparently I am wrong then?

reading the article you gave, I found that under the device manager---storage controllers, this is showing:

Nividia Nforce RAID device is not working properly (big yellow explanation mark next to it):
This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

but I don't think that is causing the freezing tho..am I right?

783682 2009-06-19 12:40:00 One site says SP1 will fix that ACPI error. Whatever it means or does. Altho as it says on the MS site, that error can be ignored. Are you using RAID?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
783683 2009-06-19 12:50:00 This might sound silly - but did you actually install the motherboard Drivers after installing Vista - or is it simply running from the Vista Drivers ? wainuitech (129)
783684 2009-06-19 13:37:00 umm thanks speedy, I will keep the automatic update going, I am not using RAID.

for wainuitech's info, you nearly got me there, my heart did skip a beat, because I can't really remember if I installed the mobo drivers, but now when I think about it, I think I did. after installing what is on the CD that came with the mobo, I also went on the webside of my mobo and downloaded the latest and installed them all, I think..

783685 2009-06-19 13:46:00 it doesn't work pressing ctrl-alt-del......

I was in the event viewer and I don't really know what do look for, but under the "summary page events" this thing happened heaps of times:

IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for the device in PCI slot 3, function 0. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

is it of any relevence?

what should I really look for?

and thanks heaps for the info.

cheers

Don't worry about that.
Its a common problem that Microsoft is working to resolve:
support.microsoft.com

Its probably unrelated to this issue.

Look for the ERRORS and CRITICAL events, around the time when it freezed.

783686 2009-06-19 23:00:00 umm, thanks blam.

here is what I manage to find in the event viewer, under administrative events. There is no Critical error shown (or maybe i just can't find them?), just "warnings", "errors" and "informations".

Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of setting package KB938194_3 (Update) into Staging(Staging) state

Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of changing update 955020-14_neutral_PACKAGE from package KB955020(Update) into Staging(Staging) state

Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of changing update 938979-26_RTM_neutral_PACKAGE from package KB938979(Update) into Staging(Staging) state

etc, etc. there are tones of them...but it seems to me that these errors won't cause it to freeze?

thanks for the help guys. please keep it up

783687 2009-06-20 04:07:00 680 chipset, thats nvidia nforce 4, which came with a firewall option, which is troublesome. I would uninstall the nvidia forceware drivers, reboot and install again without the firewall option. SolMiester (139)
783688 2009-06-20 05:40:00 Look under system.

Funny why it won't install that update. Those errors indicate its keeps trying to install it, but fails.

Do you have SP1 installed?
